Why did Mike Tyson take the fight against Jake Paul? A $20 million pay check? Well, that’s perhaps one reason. But why did he really? Well, it’s clear that the former heavyweight boxing champion was looking for another night under the shining lights. But how realistic was he in his ambitions to win? While the fighting community goaded him into thinking Paul wouldn’t be able to match his prowess, reality kicked in pretty quickly for ‘Iron’ Mike and everyone watching, as ‘The Problem Child’ beat on a fatiguing Tyson, even carrying him in the later rounds. The spectacle soon turned into a clown show, with the biggest losers being the people that tuned in. And boy did a UFC vet have things to say about Mike Tyson’s fight against Jake Paul.
The 44-year-old Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown was speaking to the hosts of the JAXXON Podcast when a conversation was brought up about his favorite boxers growing up. Naturally, everyone including Rampage Jackson thought it would be ‘Kid Dynamite’ but Brown had a different answer. He said, “Not actually. Yeah, I swear to God. I like Evander Holyfield way more. He was always a great fighter. Don’t get me wrong man Tyson had an image. And Tyson’s got the aura. He’s got all that sh** going on for him. But he ain’t that great of a boxer”
He justified his stance by saying that Mike Tyson was legendary but others were as good, if not better. Brown stated, “See that’s all mythical bullsh** Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against Mike Tyson. I love the dude. I love watching him. I love his aura. I love to watch him train. All that sh**. I mean when you look at, like, the record, there were so many guys even in that era far far better than him. Riddick Bow, Lennox Lewis. He didn’t beat the good guys.”

Brown also showed his doubts over Tyson taking the fight against Jake Paul who is three decades younger than him. “I’m surprised Mike even took it,” Brown said. “That’s what I’m most surprised about. I don’t know what Mike is thinking here. What makes him want to do it,” he said in an episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. In fact, Mike Tyson might have earned $20 million for losing to ‘The Problem Child’ via unanimous decision, but his body was affected pretty badly.

“I feel pretty good” – Mike Tyson after his fight with Jake Paul
Mike Tyson, apparently, spent $13 million from his mega-fight against Jake Paul to buy a luxury mansion. This came 20 years after him announcing that he was bankrupt. Despite the massive purchase, the fallout from the fight was pretty evident for the ageing fighter. Tyson confessed that the fight against Paul left his body completely battered. “I feel pretty good,” the former heavyweight champion told the Post. “I don’t know if I’m 100 percent recovered, but I feel good.”
But there were so many ways this fight could have gone wrong. Jake Paul landing that one punch, or Tyson having his body heat up too much which could have taken a toll on his ageing heart – one slip and a miss, and things could have gone horribly wrong. For his part too, Tyson admitted that he couldn’t remember much from when he was in the ring with ‘El Gallo’.

The former boxing world heavyweight champion even admitted that he questioned his decision to take the fight. He said, “The day after I woke up and said to my wife, ‘why did I do that?’ I just don’t know what the hell was going on,”. He further stated that he felt a lot of pain and discomfort in his chest and stomach. However, ‘Kid Dynamite’ didn’t regret taking the fight. And why would he? After all, he did bag a cool $20 million for his losing effort. “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,”.
