After Surprising UFC CEO Dana White, $800 Million Rich Dwayne Johnson Promises Another Gift to Themba Gorimbo

Themba Gorimbo had less than just humble beginnings. The welterweight warrior hails from Zimbabwe and has a deeply unsettling past. Now, years after moving away to the U.S., Themba has found a friend and savior in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Johnson recently gifted Themba his first house in the U.S. and to add to it, he’s promised to buy him the gym couch he slept on until now.

‘The Rock‘ has recalled his life’s story countless times. The wrestler-turned-actor once had only $7 in his pocket at the lowest point of his life. This parallel between Johnson and Themba brought them together for the best of reasons. Before it all happened though, ‘The Rock’ gave Themba a surprise visit to his gym where the fighter showed him the couch he slept on. There was also the wholesome list of reasons for which Themba stood tall and fought.

Johnson buys Themba a gift worth more than just money

When Johnson heard Themba’s story, everything fell into perspective. After gifting him a house, Johnson discovered the immense significance of the gym couch in Themba’s life. In a heartfelt and viral Instagram post, ‘The Rock’ pledged to buy Themba the couch for his new home. “Welcome home my brother and I will get you that couch as a keepsake reminder of your $7 bucks journey” Johnson wrote in the Instagram post he uploaded recently.

Here, Johnson is congratulating Themba who also had only $7.49 in his bank after he sold off his fight-kit to install a bush pump in his village in Zimbabwe. The couch, in this way, became symbolic of Themba’s persistence. All of it only came to fruition because he asked his coach to let him come to Miami under any condition and at any cost.

“I messaged Coach Valverde and said to him ‘can I come and train in Miami?'” Themba explained as he and Johnson made it to his spot in the gym. “Then he said to me ahh brother, the rooms are not available at the moment.” Themba had to convince his coach because he couldn’t train in Africa after losing his first fight. “I can stay on the floor, mats, or anything.” He slept on that couch for many nights.

Dwayne Johnson bought Themba his first home

The bigger the better, whether it’s his films WWE career, Dwayne Johnson has always had a taste for doing more and more. This time around, he gave Themba a beautiful house and a chance to bring his family to Miami. The fighter was in tears when Johnson handed him the keys to his new house. “Now there’s no more couch sleeping. This is your house. Welcome home!” Dwayne said to him as the two embraced in joy.

This brings Themba’s larger-than-life journey to a full circle. From sleeping on a couch to owning it. Yes, it took the help of a dear friend, but not one person could say he didn’t deserve it. In The Rock’s own words, Themba is a“good hearted human being,” and “we need more like him.” Will Themba triple his efforts for the fights to come after all this goodwill?
