Very few people expected Sean Strickland to defeat Israel Adesanya. Even fewer anticipated his victory would be so dominant. Strickland won four out of the five rounds and scored the only knockdown in the first round.

However, Strickland has been emphasizing his determination not to let this unexpected success get to his head. He mentioned to the press that he has already moved past the incredible win over the Kiwi-Nigerian. He cited a specific example to illustrate his point, and this statement prompted a response from Conor McGregor.

In a post-fight interview, Sean Strickland mentioned that he drives a Hyundai Accent that he bought for $16,000. The new middleweight champion declared that he wouldn’t trade his Accent for a fancier car, even after becoming a champion and earning a substantial payday. He believes that his unpretentious and down-to-earth nature resonates with his fans, as they can relate to his humble choice of vehicle.

“You know I think I have a ton of fans, man. I think I have more fans than haters, you know. I think I represent the common man even like I mean guys I drive…a Hyundai Accent I ain’t trade nothing. It’s sixteen thousand dollars man, I got a damn deal. I got that thing at MSRP I ain’t leaving that thing,” an emotional Strickland told the interviewer.

Former two-division champion Conor McGregor, on the other hand, disagreed. He shared a video clip of Strickland making the statement on social media and expressed his belief that Strickland would trade in his Hyundai Accent within a month. McGregor humorously tweeted, “I give him less than a month he trading that motor in hahaha,” along with the clip.

Strickland stated that he caught Adesanya off guard with his skills and believed that the former middleweight champion didn’t offer anything particularly surprising or pose any significant problems for him.

“You know what, whenever we start swinging and banging and he threw some punches, and I was like, man, that was really like predictable. That was really easy to see, like that came from a mile away. Like I’m a way better box than you, let’s fight. It was kind of like as you get in there you start realizing ‘oh I’m a lot better than you thought,” he said.
