Is Robbie Lawler planning a comeback to MMA? This question has been on everyone’s mind lately—but why? Well, it’s because the former welterweight champion has entered the UFC’s anti-doping testing pool two years after his final fight against Niko Price in 2023. ‘Ruthless’ did live up to his name that night as he knocked out his opponent in the very first round ending his career on a good note. However, it appears that the victory was not enough for Lawler as the former welterweight and as Lawler plans to make a comeback, his former foe has come forward to praise him.
Amidst the chaos, Lawler’s former opponent Matt Brown has come forward to highlight how much of a legend ‘Ruthless’ was back in his prime. While speaking with ‘MMAFighting’, the former UFC fighter emphasized that until his fight against Lawler, he believed he was a legend. However, everything changed when he shared the Octagon with ‘Ruthless.’ “I learned the difference between what a fighter is and a warrior is that night. People call me a legend all the time and I’m like ‘That’s bulls—.’ Robbie Lawler is a f—— legend,” said Brown.
He further added, “We’ve all got to love him. Never a big trash talker. Stayed true to himself the whole time. He’s one of those guys that you kind of forget that he’s there until he’s there and you’re like oh yeah, f—– Robbie. Just a savage. I’m sure he’s inspired thousands of athletes coming up for many years.”

Back in 2014, Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown fought each other. In a three-rounder fight, both fighters showcased why they were the best in their division. Despite, Brown’s best effort to take ‘Ruthless’ into the deep waters, he failed as he conceded defeat by way of a unanimous decision. Matt Brown holds the record for most knockouts in the UFC welterweight history (13) and ranks second overall in UFC, despite that Brown believes that Lawler is in a league of his own.
Well, if we take a closer look at Robbie Lawler’s career then it would not be wrong to state that ‘Ruthless’ is one of the living legends of the sport. Debuting back in 2002 at UFC 37, Lawler came to the promotion to dominate and that’s what he did after winning multiple battles within the UFC banner to ultimately hold the welterweight belt. However, is Lawler really coming out of his retirement? Well, David Feldman might have the answer to it.

Robbie Lawler was in talks for a BKFC fight as per David Feldman
The itch to fight again is growing, and Bare Knuckle FC might just be the stage for his return. Speaking with Ariel Helwani, BKFC founder David Feldman revealed that he’s actively working on a blockbuster showdown between Lawler and the king of bare-knuckle chaos, Mike Perry. If this comes to fruition, expect nothing short of pure violence.
“We’re working on it, we’re working on it.” BKFC founder David Feldman stated when asked about Mike Perry vs. Robbie Lawler in January. “Yeah, [Robbie wants to do it]. We’re working out a deal with the UFC. That’s a sick fight, right? I’ll know [if it’s going to happen] in two weeks. If it doesn’t happen then, it will be someone else [against Perry] then possibly him.”

Interestingly, when asked about his ultimate comeback to the fighting world at the UFC 313 post-fight press conference, Robbie Lawler gave subtle hints about his return but didn’t mention either of BKFC or Mike Perry in his statement, “It’s hung up now, but never say never, I’m not closing any doors, but if they look like they’re closed… There are always opportunities out there. There’s just ‘all feel’, I guess, what I feel like doing.”
Lawler is set to be inducted into the UFC Hall Of Fame Class of 2025 in the Modern Wing this June and if he decides to make a comeback then guess he will have to wait for a few months. Given that, what are your thoughts on the hubbub? State your opinion in the comments below.
