In lieu of Joe Rogan‘s absence from UFC 293, Laura Sanko made UFC history by debuting as the first female PPV commentator. A staple for UFC pay-per-view events, Rogan has decided to exclude himself from all international events. Thus in a rare scenario, the promotion event in Sydney was graced by ‘Fancy’ herself with Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier by her side. Since then, Sanko has been overwhelmed with praises and Dana White has been her biggest cheerleader.
With the UFC 293 proving to be an eventful affair, not all of them were favorable. On one hand, underdog Sean Strickland dethroned Israel Adesanya. On the other, Charlie Radtke and Manel Kape became the target of flack owing to their questionable comments. Among these, Sanko’s commentary stood out, with the who’s who of UFC lauding her, from Conor McGregor to Dana White. The UFC CEO has been especially vocal in his appreciation during Dana White’s Contender Series press conference. This has led to a heartfelt, honest confession from the 40-year-old ex-pro MMA fighter.

While addressing the media, White gushes about Sanko as a focused, hardworking, and talented member of the MMA world. “She has worked so hard. umm.. I say this all the time, the key to being successful in life is knowing what you wanna do. Once you know who you are, you know exactly what it is you wanna do, you get up every day and you grind until you get it. And she is the perfect example of that. umm.. what she has done in such a short amount of time is amazing, and she is so talented.”

White further applauds Sanko’s cognizance of the game and how her professional demeanor has left the entire MMA community rightfully impressed. “She knew everything about every kid here and she watched every single fight” said the UFC head honcho.
He even went ahead and compared her impact on the sport to one of the MMA legends Ronda Rousey, “She knows she’s like the Ronda Rousey, you know, of commentating. She knows she’s first, she knows she’s carrying the banner for women to break into this role” “She’s an absolute pro and a beast.” he added.
Laura Sanko’s dream come true
The opportunity to be part of the commentary has been a ‘dream come true’ for Sanko. In her own X post, she writes that even before fighting as a professional, she was a true fan of the sport. Hence connecting with the ‘incredible fanbase’ was a fan’s ultimate wish granted.
I’m honored to join the commentary team for UFC 293 alongside @Jon_Anik and @dc_mma. Dream come true. Before I was an mma analyst or competitor, I was a fan just like most of you reading this. Almost 20 years later, I’m here and excited to be a small part of connecting our…
