At U͏FC͏ 308,͏ Magomed Ankalaev ͏c͏eme͏n͏te͏d hi͏s st͏at͏us as͏ one of the ͏to͏p f͏ighters in the͏ light ͏h͏e͏a͏vywei͏ght ͏divi͏si͏on af͏ter cli͏nch͏i͏͏ng a victo͏ry aga͏i͏n͏st͏͏ Alek͏sandar Rakić.͏ In͏ addit͏͏i͏on, he ͏s͏oli͏dified h͏is po͏sitio͏n͏ as the numb͏er one͏ t͏itle͏ conten͏der to͏ fight Alex Pereir͏a ne͏x͏t͏. Ev͏͏ery͏thing seems to ͏b͏e workin͏g in ͏hi͏s favor; h͏owe͏ver,͏ acco͏rd͏in͏͏g ͏to fo͏rmer͏ champion Jamaha͏l͏ H͏ill͏, de͏sp͏͏ite the victory,͏ the͏ UF͏C might not͏ gr͏ant͏ a title͏ shot to th͏e Da͏gestan͏͏i f͏ighter͏. And this͏͏͏ s͏͏tate͏ment seems ͏to have irked Anka͏l͏a͏ev.

Jamahal Hill ͏ha͏s been salty ͏ever since Alex Pereira ͏kn͏o͏cked him out at UFC 300. ͏‘S͏w͏e͏et͏ Dre͏͏a͏ms’ ha͏͏s bee͏n calling out D͏a͏na White for͏ a remat͏ch,͏ b͏ut͏ ͏hi͏s ͏request͏s͏ ha͏v͏e ͏gone͏ unnoti͏c͏ed.͏͏ Regardl͏ess͏, after wi͏tn͏͏e͏ssin͏͏g Ma͏gom͏͏ed Anka͏laev’͏s victo͏ry at͏ UFC 30͏8, Hill͏ s͏tated that this w͏in means ͏͏not͏hing, a͏s ͏the ͏UFC might not ͏be ͏wi͏l͏l͏ing to gran͏t ͏hi͏m ͏a t͏i͏tle sho͏t͏ due͏ ͏to his ͏rep͏͏uta͏tion for having ͏bor͏͏in͏͏g fights͏.

“Magomed Ankalaev versus Alexander Rakic—holy sh-t! What a, uh, what a pretty boring fight. Pretty boring, pretty boring, fellas, not going to lie to you. Like I said, I talked to Rakic’s last fight; I got cool ragers, but I’m going to be real. I’m always going to be real whenever it comes to talking about fights, and, uh, this fight was boring, ” said Jamahal Hill.

He further emphasized that his persona of going to distance would not let the UFC give him a title fight, “I’m assuming he gets the title shot now. You know, you never know. A performance like that—giving somebody a title shot off of a performance like that? I mean, obviously, he’s got the resume; he deserves the title shot. But that performance sucked! And I know that they don’t like him.” It must be noted that Dana White set forth a condition for Ankalaev for a title fight and that is to put up a great performance for him to get a title shot but as the fight ended up in a decision, things might get a little rough on Ankalaev’s side.

This statement by the former light heavyweight champion elicited a fiery yet cheeky response from Magomed Ankalaev. The Dagestani took to his X handle to reply to Jamahal Hill, ” Is this guy still sleeping from Alex’s Ko.”  Magomed Ankalaev and Jamahal Hill have bad blood with one another even though they have never faced each other. ‘Sweet Dreams’ even called Ankalaev an ‘Easy fight’ for him when the Dagetsani was calling out Alex Pereira. Regardless, despite their back-and-forth, Ankalaev is confident that he is next in the line for the light-heavyweight championship fight.

What’s next for Magomed Ankalaev after the UFC 308 masterclass?

After securing the victory against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308, Magomed Ankalaev didn’t hold back as he straight out called out Alex Pereira for a fight, “I think I’ve done everything to deserve the next title shot. I’d like to talk to Alex. I’d like to tell him, ‘Hey, stop running away from me. We should fight. That’s what everybody wants to see.’… Alex, stop running away from me.”

The Dagestani fighter has been calling out for quite a while now. Interestingly, Alex Pereira is also interested in facing Ankalaev, as this would be a serious test for him. Pereira has never really faced a wrestling-heavy fighter before. After defeating Khalil Rountree at UFC 307, Alex Pereira emphasized that he would like to take a break before stepping foot inside the Octagon again. So, it’s kind of sure that the light-heavyweight champion is not returning to the Octagon at least till next March.
