Dana White recently made an exciting announcement regarding the upcoming stacked card in the world of mixed martial arts. Among these incredible matchups, one particular fight stood out: the highly anticipated rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. The lightweight stars go against each other once again, headlining UFC 291 on July 29 in Salt Lake City. What makes this showdown even more enticing is the vacant BMF[Baddest Motherf**ker] title, which was left unclaimed after Jorge Masvidal’s retirement.

Poirier has the upper hand in the matchup as he defeated Gaethje back in 2018. However, with the BMF belt on the line, the stakes have reached a whole new level. The fight now carries additional weight and importance, making it a must-watch for fight fans around the world. And White recently shed light on why he felt the need to reinstate the BMF title.

Back in 2019, Dana White, the head honcho of the UFC, introduced the BMF belt for the highly anticipated main card fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz at UFC 244. The fight immortalized itself in UFC history with both contenders engaging in a thrilling affair. ‘Gamebred’ emerged as the victor and became the first holder of this celebratory title.

Fast forward to the present day, after a hiatus of four years, the BMF belt is making a comeback. During the recent post-fight press conference of UFC Vegas 73, the promotional frontman was asked about the reason behind bringing back the coveted belt. In response, the UFC President stated, “We thought that Poirier and Gaethje is such a awesome fight.

“Masvidal retired, so we put the BMF up. You have no idea how many of these fighters want to fight for the BMF title. They all want to fight for that belt, so- it’s fun, it’s different. So, we’ll do it again.”
