Gordon Ryan is considered the GOAT of Jiu-Jitsu. While he is criticized for using performance-enhancing drugs, something he has seemingly admitted to, his ability on the mat is a spectacle to behold for BJJ fans. Add to this the various health issues he has been going through, and his performances are even more impressive. The American is open about his health struggles. This year, he suffered a strep throat infection, which did not succumb to medication. Because of the same, the BJJ GOAT had to be in the hospital for a harrowing 40-day treatment.

Recently, he has talked about operating at 50% capacity as his body can only absorb half the nutrition in his body due to candida overgrowth in his system. But, he has kept his magnanimity and humility throughout the ordeal. He recently took to social media to speak highly of his friend and gi BJJ competitor Nicholas Meregali.

In his post on Instagram, Gordon Ryan heaped praises on gi BJJ grappler and three-time world champion, Nicholas Meregali. He posted a picture of the Brazilian and called him the greatest practitioner of gi BJJ in the world. He expressed pride at being friends with the martial artist and wrote that he was far ahead of his competition and was unbeatable at the moment.

“The greatest gi athlete in the world, and someone I am proud to call a friend. No one is close in the gi, and no one can beat him no gi, either. @nicholasmeregali @nicholasmeregali @nicholasmeregali,”?he wrote as caption.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his title against former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November. And to counter Miocic’s elite-level wrestling, Jones turned to perhaps the greatest active grappler in the world – Gordon Ryan.

A video of the two grappling leaked earlier this month, creating a buzz in the combat sports world. After their session, Ryan went to profusely praise Jones. He said the UFC heavyweight champion was “nothing but spectacular” as a person and also?“the absolute best”? and the “baddest man” in MMA.

Jones reciprocated the compliments from the BJJ maestro and took to social media.
