Last year, the duo took on the roles of rival coaches in the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter, sparking eager anticipation among fans for their eventual face-off. Chandler had voiced his reservations, suggesting that McGregor might opt for a trilogy match with Nate Diaz, a contest he deemed a ‘less challenging’ option for the 35-year-old fighter.

Chandler had asserted that McGregor was trying to duck him but every allegation made on McGregor came out to be untrue. “Mystic Mac” in the zero hour of the new year announced that he would be returning on June 29th at the International Fight Week. He further emphasized that they would be fighting at 185 lbs weight class which is new for both the fighters.

Following the announcement, “Iron Mike” took to his social media accounts to emphasize the weight class to McGregor. Chandler posted a video of his fight against Tony Ferguson, in which he issued a challenge to Conor McGregor after securing the victory. ” If Dana White were to have a momentary lapse of judgment and give this title shot to someone else, I’ve got one dude on my mind: Conor McGregor, you’ve got to come back. I’m the most entertaining lightweight on the planet. I always said I wanted you at your biggest, your baddest, and your best. you ane me at 185.”. Chandler even added the statement that the 185 lbs is better to him.

Chandler reminded McGregor ͏that they should fight at 185 lbs when they’re at their best. The fighter even took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express that the middleweight category is the ideal choice for their bout, emphasizing that it would complement his physique. The revelation took the internet by storm with many prominent personalities jumping on the bandwagon to comment.

MMA community reacts to McGregor’s announcement

The 185 lbs category is considered the middleweight division, and for fighters like Chandler and McGregor to compete in this class, they would need to gain additional weight and enhance their flexibility. However, this adjustment may pose challenges for their bodies. Paulo Costa, who is scheduled to face Robert Whittaker soon, showcased his desire to be the replacement for Chandler on his former Twitter handle, expressing his readiness for the opportunity.“I gonna step in replacing Chandler” said Costa.

Prominent MMA journalist Ariel Helwani said “International Fight Week is in fact slated for June 29 in Vegas. First time that IFW will be in June. It’s usually that first or second Saturday in July. McGregor wanted to fight at 300. He pushed hard for it. He was ready, I’m told. But after meeting with the brass last week they settled on June 29.”
