Alex Pereira is a savage like no other. However, what happened when Israel Adesanya turned the tables on him in the art of mockery? Well, it wasn’t exactly Pereira on the receiving end of the taunt, unfortunately; it was his son. Pereira, on the other hand, was merely on the receiving end of a brutal knockout.

The incident dates back to UFC 283, and if you drag it on for longer, back to the duo’s kickboxing days. There was a time when Pereira and Adesanya exchanged blows and knockouts in a ring. Now, they do it in the Octagon. Some things never change. But that doesn’t mean Adesanya didn’t know how to have all the fun while he could.

In 2017, Adesanya was knocked out by ‘Poatan’ in a kickboxing match. To celebrate this, Pereira’s five-year-old son at the time found the most iconic way possible. He mocked ‘Izzy’ by recreating his fall during the knockout by dropping to the mat. This image may just have burned into Adesanya’s mind.

So years later, when he had the chance to do so, ‘Izzy’ mocked his son back. This was right after knocking Pereira out cold during UFC 283. Now, the son is older, but ‘Izzy’ doesn’t care who’s how old when it comes to serving up some sass. He mocked the child by doing the exact same thing he did to mock him back in those days. Naturally, this did not sit right with ‘Poatan’ who said.

“I saw the joy he had after the knockout at UFC 287,” Pereira explained in his video. “That was his dream and he made it but we’re comparing him with a child who was five years old at the time right? I don’t get it. I saw that he was being influenced by other people right? Even in the interviews some reporters asked him, are you going to do this and he said yes I’m going to do it. I think it’s funny. I did that, I knocked him out at UFC 281. I won the belt and my kid wanted to do the same thing up there I said to him stop don’t do it. I wouldn’t do it but if Adesanya did it. If he felt better that way okay.”

Clearly, ‘Poatan’ was in no space to be dealing with Adesanya’s shenanigans. His son did what he did. Even though it was a very humiliating moment for Adesanya when he was mocked by a mere toddler. Pereira took the high road and kept firm with his son. And on the other hand, ‘Izzy’ invoking his inner child is just in character for the fighter.

The Rivalry Of The Ages

Even though ‘Izzy’ left kickboxing, he couldn’t quite leave the stone-faced Pereira behind. Pereira shifted a whole promotion and fighting style just to get a shot at knocking out Israel Adesanya. Now that Adesanya is out of the picture for a while, Pereira has perhaps a greater foe to face.

That’s right, Alex Pereira will be heading into UFC 295. He will be headlining the main event alongside the mystical ninja of the UFC, Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka is returning to the UFC after he suffered perhaps the worst shoulder injury imaginable. Will this injury hold him back during the fight? We’ll just have to wait until UFC 295.
