The common misconception that people have about learning the art of fighting is that it promotes violence and can lead to bullying. According to the UFC commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Joe Rogan, who himself is a decorated martial artist that packs a mean back-spinning kick, has a lot to say about bullying and the effect of martial art in real life.
American martial artist and Welterweight fighter Sean Strickland is not one to shy away from controversies. His statements about ‘women’ were questionable and led to a lot of criticism from the fans and the media. The fighter, who recently secured a win over Abus Magomedov, is looking for a title shot against Israel Adesanya. He recently spoke about bullying and having a troubled childhood.

“When I was in elementary school, I was home-schooling, like 3rd-4th grade, until… until like 7th grade I went back to school. And then, they spotted me right off the bat. This guy’s a problem, he’s a shitbag… like, and so they isolate you. They put you in like a school where you start two hours later and like an hour early, cause in… they gotta isolate you in high school.“, recalled Strickland.
The memory seemed to be less than pleasing for the UFC fighter who continued by saying, “Same shit, went to a continuation school. So society, like – they do well in saying this kid is going to be a problem. We just gotta like… he’s like cancer, we just can’t let him infect other people. Let’s f*****g put him away. And then you go, then he gets older and he goes to jail. Some shit.“.
Rogan, who seemed affected by this, said, “But it’s funny that those kids – a lot of those kids; they can do things. They just need direction. They need something and martial arts is the best thing for those kids.” choosing to root for the kids who often get overlooked. Having submitted himself to the discipline of martial arts and having benefitted from it, Rogan said, “When people say ‘whats the best thing about bullies?’ or, best thing rather to deal with bullies? I’m like teach them how to fight. You teach bullies how to fight they’re not gonna want to beat people up. They’re… if you teach them how to train with real people, they’re not gonna be doing that.”
Sean Strickland’s Next Victim – Title shot ahead of Du Plessis or Whittaker?
Strickland is a confident American fighter who got the job done when Abus Magomedov tried to test him in the Octagon. The Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya seems to be next on his agenda but the fact of the matter is that Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis are facing off against each other for a title shot already. Adesanya has a lot of challengers within the division, but Strickland seems to be determined to dance with the champion after one or two more victories.

Before his last two consecutive wins, Strickland suffered two straight losses – one at the hands of Jared Cannonier and the other at the hands of the celebrated rival of the division champion, Alex Pereira. Statistically speaking, Adesanya has the upper hand if he fights Sean Strickland since he has beaten Alex Pereira and Cannonier both.
