The UFC light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira just showcased why he is slated to be the best in the game. Pereira dropped Jamahal Hill in the very first round at the UFC 300. While the fight started a bit slow with both the fighters missing some shots at each other, things took a different turn when Hill started trash-talking mid-fight.
According to Pereira he wanted a full five-round fight but couldn’t resist knocking out the former champion after the trash talk. After the knockout, ‘Poataon’ stood over Hill and celebrated his victory with a show of hand gestures that prompted a reply from the YouTuber Khaby Lame. Interestingly, the influencer appreciated Pereira’s gesture to channel his inner Khaby Lame.

The buildup for Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill’s fight was insane. There was a speck of doubt regarding who would win the battle of the historic night but Pereira proved that there’s no one in the current UFC roster who has the capability to defeat him. ‘Poatan’ broke the light heavyweight curse and successfully defended his belt after Jon Jones vacated the belt back in 2020.

Pereira explains his viral celebration
Alex Pereira is known to have a very stoic demeanor. The light heavyweight champion seldom showcases his emotion to anyone, yet, when he knocked out Hill, Pereira took center stage to embrace his victory and celebrate it in a rather funny style. But why did Pereira act like that? According to the light heavyweight champ, he did not like the way Jamahal Hill behaved.

“I spoke with my team before, and I wanted to fight for five rounds, but if the knockout happened that [celebration] is what I was going to do. The way he behaved was not so good, he started off respectful during the week and then he did what he did during the press conference and the weigh-ins. So honestly the least I could do was that to him,” said Pereira at the presser.
The champion has now opened considerable options for himself and it’s only a matter of fact for Pereira to embrace his journey to the heavyweight division. What’s your take on Pereira’s career so far? State your thoughts in the comments below.
