On an episode of The Big Show with Shaq, UFC CEO Dana White revealed that commentator and JRE host Joe Rogan has been pushing him to book a fight between heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. “Rogan is pushing me right now to make that fight,” White said. It surely is a super-fight that might be in the minds of several fans by now.
After all, Jon Jones is considered one of the MMA GOATS by fans. His championship reign with the light heavyweight championship was nothing short of legendary. And even when he moved to heavyweight, he managed to earn himself the gold there – something that is very similar to what Alex Pereira has achieved as ‘Poatan’ too won gold in both the light heavyweight and the middleweight categories. So it was no surprise when another UFC veteran chimed in and seconded the demand made by Joe Rogan.
Former MMA pro and UFC veteran Matt Brown recently talked about the dream match between ‘Bones’ and ‘Poatan.’ In an interview with Fighter vs. Writer, Brown claimed that booking a fight between the two could be as hyped and big as a Conor McGregor fight. The 43-year-old further added that having his MMA GOAT, Jon Jones, go against the one who is definitely trying to be the MMA GOAT in Poatan will surely be a match everyone will be interested in.

He said, “I don’t doubt this could be as big as any Conor (McGregor) fight. This could be promoted to the max. There’s a different aura that can be sold here when Jon Jones, the greatest of all time, who just beat the greatest heavyweight of all time—assuming that happens—fighting another guy trying to do the biggest thing of all time, [become] a three-weight world champion. I can’t think of a bigger fight outside of Conor.”

However, according to Dana White, this isn’t a match that he would be booking. When asked about the dream match during Dana White’s Contender Series, the UFC CEO responded with a simple ‘No’. As in his mind, the possible fight that should be booked might be between Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall. Also, it seems hard to imagine ‘Bones’ and ‘Poatan’ agreeing to a match considering the bond the two share with each other.
When Jon Jones praised Alex Pereira after the UFC 306 encounter
Alex Pereira surely made a good impression on Jon Jones after the American met ‘Poatan’ backstage at UFC 306. And post-meet, the relationship between them really strengthened. So much so that ‘Bones’ is all praise when giving his opinion on the Brazilian, another champion of the Dana White-led promotion just like him. In an interview with the YouTube channel ‘Clocked N’ Loaded’, Jones highlighted the simplicity of the athlete and was impressed with his physical size.

He said, “[Alex] Pereira was amazing. He was so humble and just big and strong. He’s just an awesome guy, awesome champion.” And the Americans’s reaction to coming face to face with ‘Poatan’ is not surprising. The heavyweight champion constantly praises the Brazilian and cheers for his success in the UFC. The owner of the light heavyweight belt (93 kg) was also happy to meet the veteran. He revealed that even a possible training partnership between them could get off the ground.
During an interview with Full Send, Pereira revealed, “We’ve been talking a little bit about training together for a long time, but I think now it’s going to happen. His fight is going to be in November. Every time you leave a fight, it takes a week or two sometimes to recover from small injuries, but I think I’ll have enough time to go over there.” Well, it surely looks like the super-fight between the two will remain a pipe dream for the fans.
