Retired UFC legend Chael Sonnen has been making headlines lately for his claims against USADA. Associating with Conor McGregor‘s anti-doping test, Sonnen gave forth plenty of information regarding the workings of USADA. Some of what he said is nothing less than shocking. ‘The American Gangster’ recently mentioned the outside-the-ring story of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and his connection to USADA. A number of UFC fighters have failed the anti-doping test and have faced consequences. Now, the 46-year-old says that if fighters try to go against the norms of the agency, their entire career might be ruined.
He mentioned about the anti-doping agency, as Conor McGregor and USADA had a lot of disagreements initially. Sonnen emphasizes that in some cases, the USADA might make some exemptions when a fighter is highly influential. Otherwise, the agency has the power to destroy the fighting career of any fighter. Hence, he adds that it is the choice of the fighters to decide on how to deal with the anti-doping agency.

Recently, Chael Sonnen mentioned that USADA is not strict with influential fighters like Floyd Mayweather. He mentioned how the boxing GOAT failed an anti-doping test but went forward with his boxing match. However, the USADA didn’t let UFC superstar Conor McGregor get away without testing. The Irishman expected some special treatment from the anti-doping agency.
However, they wanted ‘The Notorious’ to go through the testing process like any normal fighter. This paved the way for a war between the two parties. However, nearly a week ago, the UFC two-division champion and USADA came to an agreement. When it comes to the boxing legend, USADA favored him completely, and it never appeared like a serious issue until Sonnen pointed it out.
Chael Sonnen warns fighters against USADA
In the latest video uploaded on Sonnen’s YouTube channel, he said, “USADA has a tremendous amount of power. They have a tremendous amount of authority and that doesn’t just come from the structure of their business. It comes from the fact that if you want to test that authority or you want to test a decision made by USADA it could cost you your career.”

He further added, “It could very easily take you two to three years to resolve a matter. If you just accepted and went along with this, it is going to be six months now… They have a lot of power because of that and they are not in the same shoes. If they go and make a decision even one that turns out to be egregious, they don’t miss a day at work.”

The retired UFC legend adds that if a fighter goes on to question the decision of USADA, the ultimate loss will be his or hers. He also mentioned that the fighters and the authorities at the anti-doping agency are not in the same boat. So if some issues come up, the anti-doping agency will never have to face the consequences.
