For anyone following the MMA scene, it must be no surprise that Conor McGregor comes and clout follows. In his years of association with the promotion, the Irishman has undoubtedly established himself as the biggest name in the business. As a matter of fact, anything associated with the ‘Mystic Mac’ becomes a point of discussion in the MMA community.
The latest of this is his upcoming return to the octagon. Following the devastating injury that he sustained during his rubber match with Dustin Poirier, McGregor has been on a path to recovery. Within this time frame, the Irishman has managed to undergo a shocking transformation. But despite this, his Octagon return has been shrouded in mystery. Until now, he was expected to face Michael Chandler, sometime this later year. But according to the latest speculation of former UFC star Chael Sonnen, that plan might not materialize.

In his latest video, Chael Sonnen dropped a bomb on Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon. If the NCAA alumni are to be believed, McGregor vs Chandler is far from a done deal. This, in Sonnen’s opinion, is due to the low ratings of the ongoing season of The Ultimate Fighter. For those unfamiliar, ‘Notorious’ is currently part of the reality tv show, alongside Michael Chandler. Traditionally, the TUF coaches face each, following the show’s finale. But if the former two-time UFC title challenger is to be believed, that won’t be the case this time.
It is noteworthy that this is the second appearance of Conor McGregor in the show as a coach. He previously coached the European team against Urijah Faber’s Americans. But interestingly, he didn’t face Faber as well. Earlier, people believed that the Irishman’s fight with ‘Iron’ might get canceled due to his problem with USADA. But according to Sonnen, that’s not the case. In ‘American Gangster’s own words:
“They’re not gonna do McGregor and Chandler, and it’s got nothing to do with USADA. They’re scrapping the idea because the ratings are low for the Ultimate Fighter, and therefore they now know that’s not a sought-after fight.”

Another former two-division UFC champion, Henry Cejudo too believes that Conor McGregor won’t fight Michael Chandler in his octagon return. In Cejudo’s opinion, ‘Iron’ does not bring anything to the table that makes him an interesting prospect. Thus, he believes that the Irishman might ask for a different opponent.
