Raygun honored at UFC 305—Is this the redemption she needed after the Paris Olympics hate?

With the kind of heat that has enveloped the main event, the hype around UFC 305 is ginormous, with the entire RAC Arena booming with high entropy. But that doesn’t mean the preliminary card didn’t impress. Especially the fight between Casey O’Neill and Luana Santos. The fight witnessed O’Neill get her first win since 2022, as she defeated Santos via a unanimous decision.

Even after the fight, all eyes were focused on ‘King’ as she paid tribute to the Olympian, ‘Raygun’ Rachael Gunn. O’Neill performed a few of Gunn’s dance moves to celebrate her victory. Gunn competes in the realm of breakdancing, one of the newest additions to the Olympic Games. However, allegations that she and her husband pulled some strings to manipulate the selection process and get her a spot in the Australian Olympic team garnered quite a bit of ‘devastating hate’ from the sporting community.

The Olympic breakdancer has apologized for it all, claiming, “Well, I went out there and I had fun- I did take it very seriously. I worked my b*tt off preparing for the Olympics and I gave my all. Truly.” But the sporting community seemed to believe that B-girl Raygun. And as O’Neill danced off inside the Octagon, the fighting community was indeed flabbergasted.

The last time O’Neill secured a win was when she fought Rozanne Modafferi at UFC 271. However, the next couple of her fights resulted in disappointing defeats for the Scottish mixed martial artist. And the fighting community wasn’t oblivious to that. When the play-by-play commentator brought up that the win over Santos was indeed her first victory since 2022, the MMA world seemed to believe that the win wasn’t worth celebrating. One fan wrote, “You can’t celebrate as Jon is saying it’s your first win since 2022.” Another fan brought in head injury to the comments, quoting, “CTE is real.”
