Derrick Lewis is an exciting fighter who is every fan’s delight to watch. His take-no-prisoners, kill-or-be-killed approach to fighting, excellent mic skills, and colorful personality make him one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. And Jorge Masvidal, who has become a full-time fight promoter after his retirement earlier this year, has expressed a desire to sign him to his fight promotion company.
And he has a potential opponent in mind already- comedian and former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub. ‘Gamebred’ offered the fight to Schaub when he went on his ‘The Fighter and The Kid’ podcast with co-host Bryan Callen. And in a recent appearance on Joe Rogan’s JRE Fight Companion show, Schaub discussed the offer with Rogan.

Schaub described how the offer began as a joke when he was talking about fighting other comedians and celebrities with ‘Gamebred’ on the podcast. To his surprise, Masvidal offered him a potential fight against Derrick Lewis in his Gamebred Bareknuckle Promotions since Lewis is now a free agent. His co-host was enthusiastic and asked him to take the fight. Schaub, however, wanted no part of it.
“It started off as a joke uh when Jorge came on [the podcast] and where he’s like well… [why don’t you fight] Derrick [in Gamebred Bareknuckle promotions] who’s a free agent. Brian’s [Callen is] like Oh Derrick Lewis. I’m like I’m like Bare Knuckle Derrick Lewis? Are you out of your f***ing mind?” Schaub asked.
Rogan agreed with Schaub’s reluctance. “Are you crazy?” the exasperated Boston native asked Schaub. The former UFC fighter did admit that he had been offered a significant amount of money. But pointed out he had been retired for 10 years and would have to put everything else on hold to train, which he did not want to do.

Derrick Lewis’ final fight under UFC contract
‘The Black Beast’ fought his last contracted fight with the UFC at UFC 291 last week. He defeated Marcos Rogerio De Lima with a spectacular flying knee kick in the first round followed by some flamboyant celebrations. The New Orleans native proceeded to take his shorts off and gave a sprawled-out Lima Chris Benoit’s ‘thumb across the throat’ and the DX ‘suck it’ chop.
It is easy to see why Schaub does not want to fight Lewis, who holds the record for most wins by knockout in the history of the UFC. But, if contrary to fan sentiment, Lewis is not re-signed by the UFC, he could go to the PFL and rematch Francis Ngannou, who he had defeated in their first encounter. And if that doesn’t work, Lewis could sign with Masvidal. Whereas Schaub, for now, seems adamant about staying retired.
