UFC star Colby Covington isn’t ready to loosen his grip on the title shot that he recently got awarded. Confident of a title shot next, ‘Chaos’ even wants to take it forcefully.

Ever since UFC president Dana White announced him as the next in the line, the fighters closer to the top of the ladder have criticized the decision and especially the champion Leon Edwards. The British fighter, who ousted Kamaru Usman and cemented his champion’s status at the recently concluded UFC 286, is skeptical of the American fighter’s title credentials. Further, he voiced the same concerns after the retirement of Jorge Masvidal.

On the other hand, the former interim champion is banking on the words of the UFC head honcho. And prepared to snatch the title opportunity from ‘Rocky’ even if the champion is reluctant. In addition, he is already eyeing a summer timeline for the title showdown.

Thus, he wrote, “Don’t want to give me a title shot mumble mouth? I recall the British not wanting to give Americans our freedom either… So we took it. See you in July junior. 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸”

Notably, his comments gain significance after Dana White assured him to strip the British champion of the title in case he refused to cede the opportunity to the #1 ranked welterweight. Disclosing these developments in a conversation with Submission Radio, Covington mentioned he was fighting this summer.

Therefore, he said, “If Leon doesn’t wanna fight, I’ve already been assured that it’s okay. They’ll just strip him and I’m next in line.”

The odds are against Edwards, who reiterated his stance after the proceeding of UFC 287 concluded.

Leon Edwards reluctant to cede title shot to Covington

The Jamaica-born champion expressed his disappointment in his rival, ‘Gamebred’, who lost his fourth fight on trout and hanged his MMA gloves after an illustrious MMA career that spanned over two decades.

Expanding on his stance, he expressed none of the fighters deserved a title shot. Hence he wrote, “F*cking bum Jorge fumbled the bag once again. None of them really deserve it. Who should I fight next? #kingLeon”
