Is UFC judging becoming a joke? Dana White's latest move says it all!

You might be excited that Dricus Du Plessis won the fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305, but there is another iconic thing that happened in this event. On one hand, one fighter was celebrating their win, while on the other, a judge was being removed from the panel. Howie Booth was removed from his position because of the decision he made during the heavyweight clash between Tai Tuivasa and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Most of the audience, both at home and inside the event, felt that they already knew who was going to win. However, Booth scored about in favor of the Australian and gave a score of 30-27.

This surprised not only the audience but also several veterans inside the UFC and even the CEO. Even though Rozenstruik had won via decision, the scorecard by Booth was not appreciated. Even UFC insiders and veterans spoke about why it was unfair.

Among the three official octagon site judges, Booth decided to put a controversial scorecard down. The judge had been relieved of his duties for the remainder of the event; however, this did not stop veterans from voicing out why the scorecard was unfair.

Bisping said, “I am telling you, something has got to be done about these judges what the hell is going on?” He reprimanded the decision and further stated, “…this judge man get the hell out of here!” The former dualweight champion criticized the judge and said that the couriers of fighters were on the line because of one decision, and it was important to give the right scorecards. He appreciated both fighters and congratulated them, but he was not happy with the decision that was made by Booth.

Dave Shaw speaks up about the issue

During the post-fight press conference, UFC executive David Shaw addressed the incident in detail. He said, “The performance was probably not worth keeping him involved for the rest of the nightI think everyone needs to be held to a high standard. It doesn’t matter if I don’t do my job or you don’t do your job. It’s good to sit on the bench for a while, reconsider the work, and look to get back on track the next time.”

Tuivasa didn’t find victory in the last four fights and was under a lot of pressure entering this fight. Rozenstruik, on the other hand, is now an undefeated champion after his last two fights. On top of that, he won at UFC 305 as well, so this will push him higher up in the heavyweight division.

The other judges, namely Charlie Keech, scored round one as 10-9 for Tuivasa and rounds 2 and 3 as 10-9 for his opponent. This made the score 29-28. David Lethaby gave 10-9 in all rounds to Rozenstruik and made him the winner. Booth scored the three rounds 10-9 each for Tuivasa. However, ultimately Rozenstruik found victory, despite his 36-year-old  shoulder injury at the moment. Who do you think is going to fight next?
