Conor McGregor won’t fight until 2025- this is what UFC CEO Dana White said when asked about the return of the Notorious. The Irishman was supposed to make his return in June in the long-awaited fight against Michael Chandler. However, the Notorious pulled out of his scheduled fight due to an injury and went to rehab for it. So will he ever return?
Fret not fans of the former double champion, as a major breakthrough has hit the internet. BKFC president and founder David Feldman has revealed that McGregor now plans to fight in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. McGregor, who is a part owner of the promotion, apparently expressed this desire to Feldman, who revealed it in a recent interview with MMA Fighting. A decision that has been questioned by Chael Sonnen, as the UFC pundit wants McGregor to re-think his decision.
Feldman said that McGregor told him that the Notorious is planning to set foot in the BKFC as a fighter. He said, “Unless he’s the best salesman in the world, the talks that we’ve had it’s like ‘I’m fighting here,’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, OK. He [said] ‘I’m fighting here.” Feldman also added that if McGregor fights in the BKFC, he would be making more money there than anywhere else in the world. However, as revealed by Sonnen during an interview with ESPN, McGregor should double-think his decision. The former UFC fighter revealed that he believes McGregor might realize that since he has already achieved everything in his life, he may not have the drive to continue fighting.

According to Sonnen, it seems like McGregor is unsteady about his return to fighting. Even if the confirmation of the BKFC fight is there, he may pull out of it and his final two UFC fights. He said, “Well, I can tell you he’s equally as capable. I believe that, you know, this big, strong Conor—whatever he went through in rehabbing himself and getting ready for his big return—I’ve seen him on the mitts. I love watching him; his body moves in a very unique way, so he has that ability, he has that power, he can find the target. But ultimately, you have to ask yourself, “Do I still want to do this?” And if the answer is yes, you’ve got to ask yourself an even harder follow-up question, which is, “Why? Why do I want to do this?” And it’s okay not to.”

He further gave the example of former Olympic gold medalist Brandon Slay. Slay was arguably one of the best wrestlers of his time. However, he shocked everyone and decided to retire after realizing that now that he had achieved his goal of an Olympic gold, he had no drive to push himself further. The same can be applied to McGregor, who might not have the zeal to continue if he introspects. Well, this surely would be shocking for the fans of the Notorious. However, they will still get to see the Irishman as a major part of the BKFC. In fact, McGregor is taking his gig as part owner really seriously, since he has decided to host an amazing BKFC event in Marbella on October 12.
