While age plays a major role in any kind of sport, MMA is especially brutal for older athletes. Years of training and fighting take a toll on the body, and it becomes really difficult to keep up with the competition. But despite knowing this, many top stars of the yesteryears have extended their careers beyond what they should have.
Getting beaten up for pennies, all thanks to the financial crunch, seems like a common trend among Octagon alumni. Fortunately, this isn’t the case with all UFC fighters, as some of them have made enough to live a comfortable life without fighting anymore. Former UFC lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone is one of them.

Last year in February, Donald Cerrone retired from the UFC and the sport of MMA. In his last bout, the Hall of Famer got submitted in the second round by fellow lightweight veteran Jim Miller. Ever since then, the former WEC Lightweight champion has been inactive from the combat scene. And according to his recent interview, that is unlikely to change unless somebody offers him five million dollars.

This statement came in response to a question asking about the possibility of him fighting at the BKFC. For those unaware, Cerrone was rumored to face Conor McGregor during one of their recent events. But according to the Colorado native, something like that is unlikely to happen. However, he could make an exception in case somebody offers him a ‘fat’ paycheck. In his own words:
“I don’t need the money. I’m not itching because I need a couple hundred thousand dollars. So it’d have to be such a crazy number. Like, yeah, it, I could use five million. All right, all right, I’ll fight for five million. You know what I mean? Crazy.”
This is surprising, considering Cerrone has been out of shape for a while now. Even his last loss was his sixth straight in a row with the last win coming way back in 2019. Though within that time frame, he fought some big names like Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Tony Ferguson. Taking all this into consideration, the amount might sound crazy but still viable considering Cowboy’s legendary status.

Did Donald Cerrone have ‘Dana White Privilege’?
Apart from putting forward his demand for a comeback fight, Donald Cerrone also disclosed what he has been up to since his retirement. According to the veteran, he has done nothing but drink beer, watch movies, and play with his children. Such a lifestyle can only come with financial stability, something to which Cerrone attributes his former boss and UFC president, Dana White. This is surprising considering that White has always been a target of fighters when it comes to their paychecks.

In a career spanning over a decade, Donald Cerrone made an astonishing 38 appearances inside the Octagon. While he is still behind Jim Miller and Andrei Arlovski in this regard, none can claim the same level of activity. In fact, ‘Cowboy’ fought an astonishing five times in a single calendar year. For anyone who has been following the sport, it’s known that White loves active fighters. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense that Cowboy has Dana White privilege.
