As Jon Jones awaits a date for a showdown with Stipe Miocic, heavyweight slugger Sergei Pavlovich continues to breathe down his neck. The Russian heavyweight recently made a claim for a title shot after scoring yet another first-round finish. This time, the Pavlovich laid waste to fellow heavyweight Curtis Blaydes in the main event at UFC Vegas 71.
Pavlovich has established himself as a legitimate contender by putting together a neat six-fight win streak. He has a 6-1 record in the UFC with his only loss coming from his debut against Alistair Overeem in 2018. Since then, Pavlovich has been on a tear finishing his next six fights in the first round.
During this run, he has beaten the like of heavy hitters like Tai Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis. As for any other striker, Pavlovich faced the same question from fans about handling a wrestler inside the cage. He proved all his doubters wrong as he disposed of the wrestling-heavy Blaydes with ease inside the octagon. As he continues to make a case for a title shot, Pavlovich had a message for Jon Jones and took a sly dig at him via a recent tweet.
