Israel Adesanya, the two-time UFC middleweight champion, has been making headlines not only for his remarkable achievements in the octagon but also for the recognition he received from his home country, Nigeria, where he was born.

Not many know that ‘The Stylebender’ spent some of his time in Ghana as well while growing up. Back in April, Adesanya shared a letter he received from the Nigerian High Commission on his social media handle. The letter, sent by a Nigerian ambassador, congratulated him on his latest win and praised him for “befitting the Nigerian spirit” and his incredible attitude.

Ambassador Anderson N. Madubike, the High Commissioner of Nigeria, commended ‘Izzy’ for his victory over arch-rival Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in Miami.

The letter highlighted Adesanya’s previous successes, including winning and defending the UFC crown, and acknowledged him as a role model for aspiring Nigerians.

 

These achievements, according to Ambassador Madubike, will inspire Adesanya to accomplish even greater things in his service to humanity. Adesanya’s accomplishments have undoubtedly made his country proud.

In his recent appearance on Andre Schulz‘s podcast, FLAGRANT, Adesanya discussed his African roots and shared stories about his time in Ghana. When asked if Nigeria is jealous of Ghana’s progress, Adesanya responded, “Nigeria – it’s like everyone’s on a race to nowhere.”

He went on to talk about living in Ghana for a year and a half, attending Sunnyside primary school in Accra, and refuted the notion that Nigerians are jealous, stating, “We ain’t jealous.” He even humorously mentioned that ‘jollof rice,’ a popular West African dish, originated in Nigeria.

Adesanya’s statement sheds light on his appreciation for Ghana and his time spent there. It emphasizes that Nigeria’s focus is not on jealousy, but rather on striving for progress and success.
