The BJJ world has undoubtedly seen quite a positive change in terms of athletes receiving recognition and sheer entertainment as well. One of the biggest names to have influenced the current grappling community is 27-year-old Gordon Ryan. Having made a name for himself as one of the best athletes to have set foot on the mats, Ryan also tends to indulge quite a bit in trash-talking. A look into his social media activities would reveal how he doesn’t shy away from smack-talking his opponents or even sharing his views on other sorts of discussions.

While he surely enjoys the occasional trash-talking, his love for it gets very evident when Dillon Danis is a part of the conversation. Danis, who himself is an established BJJ athlete, has been pretty much on the receiving end of scathing attacks over the past few years, from not just Ryan, but fans as well.

Gordon Ryan jibes at Dillon Danis after the latter’s recent announcement

Danis rose to fame in the MMA community due to his involvement with Conor McGregor as the Irishman’s training partner and close aide. After making his debut in Bellator and collecting a couple of wins, the 29-year-old pretty much went off the rails as he ended up resorting to online trolling and smack-talking without any real action in the cage.

Surprisingly, after years of inactivity, he seems to have finally made up his mind about competing yet again. In a post made by ‘bjjbros’, an account dedicated to grappling news and content, the Marcelo Garcia black belt announced that he’d be making a comeback soon.

“I’m the best Jiu Jitsu fighter in the world and I will return soon.” Read the post.

Naturally, fans came out attacking the 29-year-old for making yet another claim of a comeback. Gordon Ryan too took the opportunity to jibe at his former opponent, even calling him delusional.

He wrote, “18-16 as a black belt. On par with the delusions of democrats hahahaha”

The majority of the comments, not surprisingly, expressed their genuine views on Danis.

“Yeah because the greatest jiu-jitsu fighter ducks a YouTuber”

One individual referred to the grappler getting infamously choked out by security personnel.

“Security guard: Hold my beer”

Another pointed out how Danis always made the same claims about his career.

“Has been saying that for 2 years and a half literally every chance he gets”

The rest were all just comments roasting him, which didn’t come as a surprise anymore for fans.

“So long vacation. broken bjj fighter”

“That nose gonna be even more crooked the next time we see this goof fight”

“Just doesn’t know what multiverse he’s talking about.”

“What happened to wanting to fight everyone in boxing”

Ryan beat Danis back in ADCC 2017

The rivalry between the two stems from years back when the duo faced each other in the 2017 edition of ADCC. Fans will remember the exciting match-up as Danis displayed his true potential as a grappler in what was an entertaining bout for viewers.

Ryan repeatedly attacked Danis with various leg locks as he relied on his top game and escapes in a fight that went to the judge’s scorecard. Ultimately, Gordon Ryan ended up with the victory and impressively went on to claim gold in the 88 kg division.

Following that, their careers appear to have taken hugely different courses as ‘The King’ went on to establish himself as a major name in the combat sports community. Danis meanwhile still resorts to online trolling and callouts in a bid to stay relevant. Hopefully, his announcement of a comeback would serve as motivation for the 29-year-old and maybe we can finally see him achieve his true potential as a fighter and an athlete.
