The rumors about his return started floating when he was in Riyadh to witness Anthony Joshua’s boxing event. Derek Chisora got hold of Israel Adesanya and inquired when he was going to return to the octagon since it had been a while. Fans expected “Izzy” to give the same response that he gave to others, namely that he would return in 2027.

However, the former middleweight champ roared that he baited the fans with the 2027 gimmick and asserted that he would be returning soon enough. “Me right now I’m taking my time. In my last few fights, I have 4 fights in 14 months as a champion in the UFC. That’s unheard of,” said Adesanya.

He further added, “I was the most active champion, not fight ‘champion’. Life has forced me to take some time off and I will. But you will see me soon. I said 2027 and the reta**s out there actually thought I meant that. But you’ll see.” Adesanya’s statement was like a shocker for the fans, considering that he had been away from the fight since UFC 293 and that it took them by surprise.
