Opening up about his kids in what could be a rare look at this aspect of the former backyard brawler, he expressed their importance in his life to the interviewer.
“If my career ended right now, I got these two little guys. I mean my little girl, my little guy, I don’t need anything else in life,” explained Masvidal.
And considering that he has spent his life fighting, with time spent in major fight promotions, it was quite natural for the question of his son’s future to be brought up. Surprisingly, the 35-16 fighter didn’t want his son to have anything to do with the sport.
“But do I want my son to fight, absolutely not brother,” he stated. But despite his wishes, fate could have different plans as he goes on to state that his son does have a tendency to “scrap”.
“…as much as I hate to say it in the fear that it brings me, he has that ‘it ’factor for fighting man. Like you see him throwing hands, you think he’s been training his whole life. And it’s just like a genetic thing for him you know, and he actually likes to scrap man.” Masvidal claimed.
Masvidal expresses his desire to not see his son fight
Despite expressing his unwillingness to see his son follow in his footsteps as a fighter, ‘Gamebred’ also points out that if the kid wishes to, he would eventually find his way into the sport.
“I don’t want him to fight but also fighting is like if you’re meant to be a fighter if you’re gonna fight, not no government no person no freaking religious set no nobody can tell you you can’t fight when you want to fight you’re gonna find a fu***ng way to fight.” Masvidal expressed.
Although with this show of support, the veteran fighter claimed he’d dread the day his son chose to make the long walk out to the cage one day.
