Without a doubt, the fight was one that could keep up with the hype of Jones’ return. Although the fight went through troughs and crests, ‘No Love’ kept the adrenaline levels high with his takedowns. However, the fight garnered boos for the little action and more footwork. Doubtlessly, the mixed martial arts fans took to social media and shared what they felt about the fight.
UFC world opens up to Garbrandt vs. Jones at UFC 285
The fight began with Jones in a southpaw stance, throwing punches and kicks. However, ‘No Love’ replied with a couple of strikes. Joe Rogan was undeniably impressed with the level of kickboxing Garbrandt showcased. Surprisingly, the round ended with ‘No Love’ entertaining the fans with a shuffle.
As soon as the second round began, Garbrandt took down Jones and impressed the fans even further. After running around a bit more, Garbrandt successfully performed another takedown and took the fight to the ground. Immediately, Garbrandt took control Jones’ back. However, Jones escaped, and the two grappled beside the fence before the end of the round. Nevertheless, the running around acquired only boos from the crowd.
The final round seemingly began with a similar energy with the fighters showing off their footwork. Garbrandt dominated the arena and apparently impressed the UFC color commentator. Rogan believed that the fighter looked like a world champion. “Cody Garbrandt tonight looks like a real-world champion… One of the best versions of Cody Garbrandt’s.”
However, the UFC commentator was still not convinced as he said, “This doesn’t give you the confidence to set him up with a real contender.”

Cody Garbrandt is the absolute worst, dude fights so soft

So, Cody Garbrandt is done. He still has athleticism, but whatever durability he once had appears to be gone, and worse, Cody seems to know it. Can't fight if you can't take damage and/or don't think you can.

We thought “We won’t see a worse fight than Brunson/DDP tonight” and then they sent out Cody Garbrandt and Trevin Jones

#UFC285 Watching Cody Garbrandt was like watching a china vase on a wobbly shelf during a tremor. Will it fall, will it fall…
High drama.

However, there were many who appreciated Garbrandt’s performance. Like Rogan, many were happy to see the fighter win.

Jokes aside, as safe as this performance has been, you can't even blame Cody. This is a do or die win. There's nowhere to go from here.

A patient Cody Garbrandt is a dangerous Cody Garbrandt #UFC285

My worst fear with Cody was he’d be so paralyzed trying to win. That third round was exactly that. Still a clear as day 29-28 win but…confidence is still shot. #UFC285

Much needed win for Cody Garbrandt with his new team. Doesn't matter what it looked like. Just needed the W and got it. #UFC285

Great to see Cody Garbrandt get a solid performance tonight. Wasn’t perfect but this was a much smarter performance from him. Coming off the struggles he’s experienced in and out of the cage, I think any criticism here is unwarranted. This is something he can build from.

Fans and professionals had a lot to say about Garbrandt’s fight against Jones. Although Rogan was initially impressed with Garbrandt, he quickly changed his opinion. Furthermore, the fans agreed that the fight could have been better. Nevertheless, the bout did a pretty good job of ending the prelims and paving the path for the main cards to commence.
