Former UFC champion and now associated with PFL, Francis Ngannou, has been away from the octagon for a year while exploring boxing and earning substantial money from high-profile opponents like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Although he faced setbacks in boxing, nothing compares to the passing of his 15-month-old son, Kobe, due to a brain malfunction. Despite trying to move on from the loss, Ngannou is still struggling to recover and this was evident at the recent PFL conference where he expressed remorse for not getting “A chance to fight for my son.”
Listening to such a sad statement from a father can melt anyone’s heart, but Renan Ferreira seems built differently. He targeted Ngannou’s grief and told the media, “Francis [Ngannou] has been going through a tough year in his life, but the toughest challenge in his life and this year is going to be me. I’m going to be the biggest problem of his year.” Notably, Ngannou is set to return to the octagon against Renan Ferreira at the upcoming PFL event. Ngannou fought his last MMA fight against Ciryl Gane in 2022, defeating him and defending his title. He then exited the UFC in 2023 following contract disputes, leaving the promotion’s heavyweight division deserted.
