Stephen Thompson took to social media to share that he has signed a new deal with the UFC just ahead of the last event of the year for the promotion.

The news was first reported by Paradigm Sports on Twitter. The Tweet congratulated Thompson with a caption- “Congrats to Stephen Thompson (@WonderboyMMA) on re-signing with the UFC on a multi-fight deal.”

‘Wonderboy’ competes in the welterweight division of the UFC. He is a former welterweight title challenger and has fought against Tyron Woodley twice for the welterweight gold. While he earned a draw at UFC 205, he suffered a defeat at UFC 209.

At the moment, Thompson has 16 wins to his name in professional MMA.

The 38-year-old South Carolina native is also an ace kickboxer with an undefeated record of 57 wins, including both amateur and professional kickboxing bouts. Having made his UFC debut in 2012, one can expect him to complete a decade in the promotion at the very least. His first fight as part of his new deal will be a massive one.

Stephen Thompson takes on Belal Muhammad at the last UFC event of the year

‘Wonderboy’ has a fight scheduled against rising talent Belal Muhammad. The welterweight clash will take place at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Daukaus on December 18 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Thompson is #5 on the charts, Muhammad sits at #10 in the same division.

Hence, ‘Wonderboy’ will have a lot on the line if he wants to chart a course back to Kamaru Usman’s belt. Meanwhile, Muhammad will look to win and break into the top 5.

‘Remember The Name’ is currently unbeaten in his last six; ‘Wonderboy’ lost his last bout against Gilbert Burns at UFC 264. Stephen Thompson is 2-3 in his last five bouts. Hence, a fourth loss could relegate him to gatekeeper for the duration of his new UFC deal.
