In a recent interview with The Schmo, Sonnen shared his thoughts on the credibility of the clash between Fury and Ngannou, drawing comparisons to other notable sporting competitions. The Schmo kicked off the interview, asking Sonnen, “Any shot you give to Francis Ngannou to shock the world – and knock out Tyson Fury?”

Sonnen retorted back with some strong words for the Fury vs. Ngannou matchup. He deemed it the “most ridiculous sporting competition” he has witnessed in his lifetime. To illustrate his point, Sonnen used an analogy, comparing the hypothetical scenario of the Los Angeles Lakers, with Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, facing off against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots under football rules.

He said, “Let me give you an example – take the Lakers… I don’t know if LeBron was ever on that team, but remember when they were really good…take them and go put them against [Tom] Brady and the Patriots, right – you got these great teams, but you’re gonna go do it under football rules. Do you see how stupid it is?”

Moreover, the MMA analyst reasoned, “Do you see why it’s never happened?… This is literally the most ridiculous sporting event of my lifetime.” What’s more – he emphasized the absurdity of such a mismatched contest, highlighting why it has never been discussed or attempted.

While Sonnen criticized the matchup, he did offer his perspective on Ngannou’s chances against the WBC Heavyweight champion. In a surprise twist, the analyst declared, “I will tell you this – it is more likely for Francis to beat Fury…” The three-time UFC title challenger also admitted that ‘The Predator’ had already “done the hard part” by getting Fury to take the fight.
