After defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, Jon Jones proceeded to call out heavyweight legend Stipe Miocic for a fight. UFC president Dana White later confirmed their bout will take place at UFC 295. Meanwhile, Philadelphia 76ers legend Evan Turner gave his take on the fight between Jones and Miocic in an interview with ‘The Schmo’.

The UFC completed 30 successful years as a promotion and hosted a two-day event called ‘UFC X’ during the 10th annual International Fight Week. Having said that, Evan Turner believes that beating ‘Bones’ will cement Stipe Miocic’s position as the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time. He said, “[Miocic becomes] pound-for-pound greatest heavyweight of all time hands down.”

Furthermore, the NBA legend claims that the Ohio native had been the best heavyweight fighter for some time now. But defeating Jon Jones will put him in the upper echelons of the best UFC fighters ever. Turner added, “He already was [the greatest heavyweight] in general, but you have to put him in the top three or four.”

Turner claims the 40-year-old veteran is better than Anderson Silva

Evan Turner mentioned how UFC president Dana White used to talk about Anderson Silva being the best during his prime in the UFC. ‘The Spider’ holds the record for the longest winning streak in the promotion’s history. However, the 76ers legend claims that, for him, Stipe Miocic was better when he was in his prime.

Turner said, “You always hear Dana White rave over how great Anderson Silva was in his prime… but I got Stipe.” Moreover, he firmly believes that a win at UFC 295 will cement his legacy as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters to ever grace the Octagon.

UFC 295 will take place at Madison Square Garden, an appropriate venue for two of the greatest UFC fighters ever. Many people believe that this fight is one for both Jones’ and Miocic’s legacies. While Jon Jones will come into the fight with a win, Miocic hasn’t fought for over two years now. It will be interesting to see how he fares against arguably the UFC’s most dominant fighter ever.
