Colby Covington’s antics and chaotic personality are no surprise to anyone in the MMA community. However, it can seem a bit weird to fans of other sports to find a mixed martial artist, trash-talking their sport’s biggest superstar.

Something of this sort took place in 2020, following his dominant victory over former champion Tyron Woodley at UFC Fight Night 178. He took aim at NBA’s icon LeBron James and thanked first responders and military personnel for protecting them.

Kevin Durant & Austin Rivers clap back at Colby Covington for his comments

Colby Covington made it clear he is not a fan of the NBA star and the ideals that the NBA icon lives by. James seemingly ignored the MMA fighter, but his rivals in Kevin Durant and up-and-comer Austin Rivers provided a response in his stead.

According to a report by clutchpoints, Durant found himself in a puzzling situation and simply failed to recognize the UFC star. In just three simple words, he asked the community, ‘Who’s this again?’. Meanwhile, Denver Nuggets’s player, Rivers wrote ‘Why though’ in response to Covington’s comments.

Lastly, Michael Carter Williams also chimed in, reminding Covington of his lone TKO loss. He said, “Weird how no one tells him to stick to fight, that jaw still cracked from Usman I see?”

What did ‘Chaos’ say about LeBron James?

It is Covington’s heelish act that compels him to say controversial things about other fighters, and he always speaks his mind. This might just be a persona, but the UFC fighter has also added bits and pieces of his actual personality to create something that fans can connect with.

After his win at UFC Fight Night 178, he berated the NBA veteran and even called him a ‘spineless coward’.

He said, “That’s gonna be a landslide. I want to dedicate this fight to all the first responders. All the military out there. This world wouldn’t be safe without you guys. You keep us safe, not these woke athletes. I’m sick of these woke athletes and these spineless cowards like LeBron James.”

The 34-year-old mixed martial artist is preparing for one of his biggest grudge matches against his former teammate and best friend Jorge Masvidal. The fight is going to take place this weekend, and it might decide whether Covington will get a third crack at the welterweight title and finally realize his dream.
