The news of Brittney Griner missing the upcoming two-game road trip with her team Phoenix Mercury has gone viral. Being one of the most prominent athletes in the sport, Griner’s fans didn’t handle this too well but had the utmost sympathy for the center. Among those disappointed fans was the BJJ-great Gordon Ryan.
Ryan shared a post on his Instagram story that declared that Brittney Griner would be missing Mercury’s upcoming two-game road trip because of mental health reasons.
Moscow airport authorities arrested Griner in February 2o22 on charges related to drugs. They detained the Mercury center for nearly 10 months before releasing her in December in a prisoner swap with Viktor Bout. Now, the WNBA star is slowly finding her footing and getting back to her normal life.
But, it seems the entire incident might have taken a toll on her as Griner has decided to take some time off before getting back on the road with her team. Meanwhile, Ryan is also gearing up for a return to action after his recent health scare. The BJJ phenom received high-praise from a UFC legend who declared he wanted no part of Ryan on the mats.

However, it seems that even St-Pierre is scared of the ‘King’ of BJJ. He has officially stated that Gordon Ryan is the only fighter that he is not willing to fight. Ryan’s BJJ history speaks for itself and he is definitely one of the greatest athletes in BJJ today.
Another interesting development here is that Georges St-Pierre and Gordon Ryan were seen training together in Texas earlier this year. With so many big names listed to compete in the grappling contest set for December, fans are buzzing with excitement.
