For some time now, Jon Jones has been hyping up his fans that his next fight against Stipe Miocic would be his retirement fight. However, MMA legend Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe that. Moreover, he doesn’t even think that ‘Bones’ is a big draw in the UFC. ‘The American Gangster’ heavily criticized Jones in his recent YouTube video.

Dana White recently announced that Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones will battle it out for the heavyweight title at UFC 295. The event will take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen raised some doubts regarding the interest among fans to see Jones fight and compared him to two other great athletes from different sporting disciplines.

During his recent video on YouTube, ‘The American Gangster’ claimed that Jon Jones is not the biggest draw in the UFC. Furthermore, he wonders who gave him the idea of trying to sell his fight against Miocic by claiming that it will be his retirement fight. Sonnen said, “Retirement fights do not do well [and] they have never done well.”

Furthermore, Sonnen claimed that not many people show interest in watching ‘Bones’ fight. Sonnen stated, “Jon Jones, for the talent that he is within sports, fights in front of more people dressed up as empty seats than anybody.” He spoke about how people flock in to watch Tiger Woods and LeBron James play. However, that is not the case with Jon Jones.

There are more people interested in watching the NBA legend and the Gold great than the UFC heavyweight champion. Sonnen said, “There’s no Tiger Woods, and he’s in that category. Jon’s that good. There’s no LeBron James and Jon’s in that category. He’s that good.” ‘The American Gangster’ further added, “Those guys don’t fight in front of empty chairs, Jon does.” Chael Sonnen raised a similar concern a few days back regarding Jones’s ability to sell out venues.

Sonnen wondered if Jones’s fight against Miocic could garner much attention

In another video just over a week ago, Sonnen claimed that Jon Jones has had very few sellout events throughout his career. It may have led fans to believe that he and someone like Conor McGregor are not in the same stratosphere. ‘The American Gangster’ started to wonder if the UFC would consider adding some more interesting fights on the UC 295 card to help sell out the event.

Sonnen’s enthusiasm regarding Jon Jones’ drawing ability in the UFC 295 main event is evident from the video. He clearly doesn’t rate him as the guy to sell out every event that he’s a part of. ‘The American Gangster’ expressed his eagerness to see the other matchups of the card, which is sure to create a lot of excitement. It remains to be seen how events will unfold in the coming days.
