Grandson Biaggio Walsh Recalls Handling Bullies After Landing in Fights Due to Muhammad Ali Surname (Exclusive)

Tall men cast long shadows. And often, it is not easy for their loved ones to live in the shadow of their much more accomplished relative. Muhammad Ali, considered the greatest boxer of all time, is one of the most iconic figures in American history. However, Muhammad Ali’s grandsons have not let the expectations overwhelm them and are trying to make their way into the combat sports world.

Biaggio Ali Walsh, who is a mixed martial artist and recently signed with the PFL, joined Noah Lack for an interview on the latest episode of our Exclusive ES Fancast. During their conversation, Biaggio recalled being asked to fight by other kids just because he was Ali’s grandson.

Biaggio Walsh reveals grandfather’s reputation got him in trouble as a kid

Noah Lack asked Walsh about whether he was challenged to fight in his childhood because of who his grandfather was. The PFL fighter admitted that while it had not been a regular occurrence, it did occasionally happen to him. He said that he had actually enjoyed being challenged as he would emerge victorious and it made him feel good as a child.

“It wasn’t like all the time, but it did happen. There would be kids that [go] ‘Oh I heard your Ali’ grandson, let’s box’. And we’ll box and they’d get the sh** beaten out of them and I always felt good because I shut them up. It didn’t happen all the time, but there were times I was challenged and we boxed,” Walsh said on our Exclusive ES Fancast.

Although Walsh is signed to the PFL, he is yet to turn pro. He has accumulated a 6-1 record after his impressive knockout win at PFL 2 in April as an amateur. And owing to his being related to the great man, he already has lucrative offers from big names in the combat sports landscape.

Walsh responds to Jake Paul’s offer to fight him and his brother

Jake Paul, who is also signed with the PFL, challenged Biaggio and his brother Nico Ali Walsh, who is a pro boxer to fight in MMA and boxing during a watchalong of PFL 2 earlier this year. However, neither of the brothers is interested. They have turned it down despite the lucrative payday associated with it.

Nico has stated that he does not want to take gimmick fights. He said a fight against Paul would be out of respect for his grandfather. Biaggio, on the other hand, advised ‘The Problem Child’ to fight someone of his own size. Both Biaggio and Nico are in lower weight classes than Jake Paul, who has often faced criticism for only choosing to fight fighters in a lower weight class than him.
