McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match back in August 2017. This bout lived up to the hype, breaking multiple pay-per-view (PPV) records. Following the fight, legendary swimmer and the greatest Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, also reacted to this fight on Twitter.

He tweeted, “Hats off to @TheNotoriousMMA…… amazing competitor and unreal athlete…congrats to @FloydMayweather 50-0 congrats! #legend.” Phelps also jokingly challenged McGregor to a swimming race a couple of days later.

He tweeted, “All of this talk… Should we race as well? @TheNotoriousMMA.” The fans hilariously reacted to this challenge and appreciated McGregor for putting on a show for the fans in his last bout. With Phelps also being a fan of McGregor, it is no surprise that the friendly challenge was in good spirits.

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather

This legendary bout took place on August 26, 2017.

Although McGregor was known for stopping his opponents in the octagon, he had no professional boxing experience prior to this fight. This is a major reason he was the underdog in the fight and why fans didn’t expect much from the Irishman. That, combined with the fact that he was taking on one of the greatest boxers of all time, made him a slight underdog in people’s eyes.

But to everyone’s surprise, McGregor put on a brilliant display for the fans. The Irishman won a good number of exchanges in the early rounds and landed clean shots on the undefeated boxer. But unfortunately for him, as the fight progressed, he ran out of steam.

Mayweather capitalized on this and put pressure on McGregor. Sadly, the bout ended in round 10 after Mayweather’s pace was too much for McGregor to handle. Despite this loss, fans applauded the Irishman for taking the fight and putting on a stunning performance.
