It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Mike Tyson one of the most feared heavyweights in the history of boxing. Becoming the world champion at the age of 20, ‘Iron’ proved his caliber at a very young age. But this early success was soon followed by a series of problems, most notably his arrest in the year 1992.
At the time of his arrest, Tyson was widely considered the biggest name in the world of boxing. However, during these tough times, many turned their back on the boxer, with many even speculating an end to his glorious boxing career. However, according to Tyson, there was one person who didn’t seem to have forgotten him, even during his time inside the cell.
This rap legend used to visit Mike Tyson during his jail time
Recently, Mike Tyson revealed that rap legend Tupac Shakur used to regularly visit him during his jail time. This revelation was made during his time on ‘Complex’s Goat Talk show, where he sat down with MMA fighter Francis Ngannou. The two men were there to give their opinions on not just combat sports but a multitude of different topics, revealing their favorites.
Amidst the talks, the two discussed their favorite workout song, which, for ‘Iron,’ is ‘Ambitions Az a Ridah’ by Tupac Shakur. Remembering the rapper, Tyson recalled Shakur’s visits while he was in jail. This, according to Tyson, is one of the reason why Shakur will always be his favorite. In Tyson’s own words: “Okay, my favorite has to be Tupac. I love him as a person. When I was in prison, he used to come visit me all the time. So yeah, Tupac’s the best for me. His song ‘Rider.'”
Combat sports and rap have a long history that goes back to the early days of the art form. From fighters walking out to rap songs to rappers making big bets on fights, this overlap seems to be more than just a shared love for weed and tattoos. Something that is once again proven by Mike Tyson’s revelation. For those unaware, Tyson is currently training Francis Ngannou for his boxing debut—a debut which, according to many, is cursed by his favorite rapper.
Francis Ngannou doomed to lose his fight against Tyson Fury because of the ‘Drake Curse’
As stated earlier, rappers have a history of betting in the fight game. But while there are many who seem to be making these risky calls, one man stands atop them. For those who haven’t guessed it yet, it’s Canadian rapper Drake. The chart-topping artist is regularly seen involved in the fight game, often making big bets. But many of these bets have proven to be a bad decision, with the rapper often finding himself on the losing side. This has led to a superstitious belief popularly known as the ‘Drake’s curse’ in the MMA community.
And the latest victim of this curse seems to be none other than Francis Ngannou. The heavyweight MMA fighter is set to make his boxing debut against Tyson Fury in October. However, just months before the said bout, people are speculating a loss for the fighter due to ‘Predator’s recent meeting with rapper Drake. According to many, this could be another reason for the fighter’s loss, apart from his lack of experience inside the boxing ring.
