Francis Ngannou sent a shockwave among combat sports lovers on May 16. After Ngannou left the world’s biggest MMA promotion, many were eagerly waiting for his next move. A lot of rumors were spread about it. As a free agent, Ngannou mentioned that he wished to turn to boxing soon. Back then, ‘The Predator’ also made quite a lot of headlines for his statement. However, things took an unexpected turn when he joined the UFC’s rival MMA promotion, PFL.
The Professional Fighters League officially welcomed Ngannou to their promotion on May 16. Ngannou’s joining PFL has helped boost the status of the promotion. However, the Cameroonian-French fighter’s decision greatly disappointed the fans, who were eagerly waiting for his boxing matches. They believed that Ngannou’s boxing career came to an end before he even started it. Now, the Cameroonian-French fighter has given the green light to his boxing debut. During the conversation on DAZN MMA, Ngannou mentioned that he was still looking forward to boxing matches. He said, “Boxing is still on the table. I always dream to get Tyson Fury and seems like he’s not quite available right now and then, even Deontay Wilder, that we’ve been talking, our team, both our team, been going back and forth. We didn’t get there because of a potential fight with AJ in December but we are still aligned on a potential fight after that but my goal is like maybe have to have a tune-up fight this year at least one before next year.”
He stated that he has a vision for his boxing career and that he is working in that direction.
He further hinted about having discussions of a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather after a number of failed discussions with Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. He added, “My team engage some discussion with The Money Team promotion regarding boxing and we’re gonna see about that, but we are definitely coming out with a plan. We have a plan and we are coming out with something very soon.” Ngannou later made it clear that nothing has been confirmed yet, even though he personally wishes to have a tune-up fight before his PFL debut in 2024.

Francis Ngannou’s new decision has created a buzz in the MMA world. Ngannou left the UFC after several failed negotiations. He wanted the UFC president to agree to some of his demands, which included increased pay, permission to take contracts outside the promotion, and health insurance for fighters. Dana White felt most of his demands were unacceptable.
The disagreements resulted in his leaving the promotion. When he joined the PFL, the promotion seems to have met most of Ngannou’s demands. This is indeed a great relief for fans who wanted to see Ngannou as a boxer.
