Jorge Masvidal knocked out Ben Askren in one of the most spectacular knock-outs in UFC history at UFC 239 back in 2019. Perhaps one of the greatest wrestlers in MMA history, Askren’s strategy consisted of taking his opponents down as soon as possible and mauling them with his superior wrestling. To counter this, Masvidal decided on an unconventional but very effective tactic.
In the opening seconds of the fight, the former Bellator champion bent down to target Masvidal’s feet. On seeing this, the Cuban-American jumped and hit Askren’s head with his knee. This knocked the former Bellator champion out cold. And after his retirement earlier this year, ‘Gamebred’ has called out Askren for a rematch.

In an interview with ‘MMA Mania’ on YouTube, Jorge Masvidal was asked about Ben Askren, saying the former was scared of a rematch in MMA. This angered Masvidal, who reminded Askren he was retired from MMA.
“This guy’s still talking sh** . Oh this guy’s a f***ing idiot, bro. Listen, he’s f***ing brain dead from that knee. I’m retired from MMA you f***ing moron and there’s no f***ing knees in boxing,” he said.
He challenged Askren to a boxing or wrestling match, but felt he won’t accept as he is a coward.
“So come over and we’ll get somebody to f***ing write you a nice check to f***ing get your head beaten and make the most money you ever made in your career times two. But he’s such a coward, he won’t do it. And then after that I told him we could wrestle if you want,” Masvidal bellowed.
Masvidal says Askren is scared to fight him
Continuing on his tirade, Masvidal said that a boxing match between the two would attract many eyeballs and would make a lot of money. However, he added that Askren is scared of getting hurt and will not do this.

“But we can get some boxing money people pay to f***ing watch him get slaughtered. People will pay. Ben that’s why he’s scared people pay some money to watch his f***ing eye orbital go in,” ‘Gamebred’ said.
His loss to Masvidal was the first in his career and spelled the end of his career. His subsequent loss to Demian Maia was to be his last MMA fight. It took Askren from being remembered as perhaps the greatest Bellator champion ever to being the recipient of the quickest knockout in UFC history. And a rematch between the two will excite fans and give Askren a chance to redeem himself.
