The most unexpected thing happened in the Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney boxing match! The amazing speed, strength, and skill helped ‘King Ry’ bag the win against Haney. However, UFC welterweight star Joaquin Buckley was not impressed with the fight. Despite the fight having all the ingredients of drama, strong punches, and Haney holding for dear life, the UFC fighter disregarded present-day boxing.

The 17-6 UFC star posted his opinion on X and the comment clearly shows his dissatisfaction with the boxing industry.

Joaquin Buckley went onto his X account and decided to spill the beans on the recent fight. He wrote, “Not gone lie rewatching the Haney and Garcia fight got me feeling like boxing overrated and not at the levels it’s used to be back in the day crazy how mma dude can’t box but neither can the boxers lol #HaneyGarcia.”

Some fans even agreed with his verdict on the match. He commented that boxing in the past was much more impactful than it is now. He did not leave MMA out as well and dissed the industries for giving low-intensity matches.

But it was not just a clash of skills that drew eyes to Haney vs. Garcia. It was the controversial build-up, Garcia’s erratic social media antics, his weight miss, and well, a clash of skills. In April last year, Garica had taken on Gervonta Davis, and the better boxer came out the clear winner.

So watching Garcia outsmart Haney was indeed surprising for many, like Buckley. Lucky for Garcia, this opens up doors to bigger fights, one of which could be against an MMA champion.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and Garcia have been going back and forth on social media for a while now. He was not happy with Garcia’s performance in the match and decided to comment on it. He took a dig at the champion for capitalizing on a rule in boxing.

Sean O’Malley called out Ryan Garcia

It’s not unknown in the industry that these two have a history. O’Malley was even ready to speak to Dana White so that a fight could be arranged! However, Garcia’s win against Haney did not seem to impress ‘Sugar’.

He added a video on his Instagram where he sarcastically commented on the fight. He mentioned Garcia’s back block punches which might be a disregard for boxing rules. “Throw the left hook and instantly turn your back,” said O’Malley.

Haney connected 87 punches out of 214, while Garcia landed 106 out of 285. The shocker, however, was that Garcia landed double the number of power punches (95) compared to Haney (45). Along with this Garcia also gave an open challenge to ‘Sugar.’ He said, “I want him [in MMA], that’s already been done. I know I’m gonna knock him out in boxing. That’s not even fair”.

What is more interesting is that their promoters Oscar De La Hoya and Dana White also have a beef with each other. So if this fight did happen, it was probably going to be as hyped up as Tyson vs Paul or even more! What are your thoughts on this? Do you also believe boxing is becoming obsolete?
