There is no denying the fact that Mike Tyson is one of the most iconic boxers of all time. He packed a lot of power in his punches and has registered 44 knockout wins in his entire career. However, UFC commentator-cum-podcast host Joe Rogan believes Tyson had another advantage over his opponents.

Joe Rogan recently sat down for a conversation with Cameron Hanes and Steven Rinella during a recent JRE episode. They discussed the jitters people get when they go out hunting a big game for the first time, which led the JRE host to reveal what goes on when someone steps up to fight for the first time in combat sports. Let’s see what he had to say.

Joe Rogan has a well-versed background in martial arts and has also competed in fights during his younger years. As such, he understands what goes on in someone’s mind when they prepare to fight for the first time in their lives. Rogan claimed that most people just start to panic because they find it hard to comprehend that they will be throwing their hands against someone else. He said, “The first time you see people fight, they are in a panic. It’s like you can’t believe it’s actually happening.”

This, Joe Rogan believes, gives top fighters the edge. The panic that the elite fighters observe in their opponents’ faces gives them some kind of psychological advantage. “It’s one of the reasons why champions have such a massive advantage. They have such a massive psychological advantage,” Rogan added. He further went on to give the example of Mike Tyson, and how he used to have an upper hand over his opponents.

JRE host claims boxers lose to Mike Tyson as soon as they enter the squared circle

Mike Tyson was 20 years old when he became a champion. Moreover, he still remains the youngest heavyweight champion in history, a record that has yet to be broken. Although Tyson had garnered excellence as a boxer while training under Cus D’Amato, Joe Rogan believes that ‘Iron’s ferocity, body language, and battle-ready attitude destroyed his opponents’ confidence even before the start of the fight.

“You’d see guys, and they’d fight Mike Tyson. They already lost [the fight] by the time they got in there… and they were just in a full panic and they just couldn’t fight,” Joe Rogan further added. It is hard to argue with the statements the UFC commentator-cum-podcast host has made, especially considering that people still fear Mike Tyson today, even at the age of 57.

Moreover, he even trained Francis Ngannou for the boxing match against WBC champion Tyson Fury last year. It remains to be seen what more projects Tyson undertakes in the months and years to come.
