A controversial victory is not a new thing in the combat sports world. The outcome of the most recent bout between KSI and Joe Fournier was one such match that invited a lot of controversy. Influencer-turned-boxer KSI had an electrifying knockout victory over Fourier at OVO Arena Wembley on May 13. The bout was nothing short of a fierce battle, which thrilled the netizens who eagerly watched the Misfits Boxing 007 show. But what went wrong in the fight? KSI used his elbow to knock out his opponent. A blow from the elbow is not something that’s widely accepted in boxing.
Soon after the footage of the knockout went viral, netizens started questioning the fight’s outcome. Many speculated that KSI’s victory would be later considered as a ‘No Contest’ or that the bout might end up with Fournier having a disqualification win. However, the bout’s outcome remains KSI as the winner until now, as the Professional Boxing Association has not decided anything on the matter yet. If they conclude KSI’s move was an illegal elbow, things can take a new turn. However, this is not an isolated incident in the combat sports world.

The retired UFC legend, Michael Bisping, came to the forefront to talk about the controversial victory of KSI. Being a UFC veteran, he was the right person to compare similar incidents in the MMA world. ‘The Count’ connected the bout between Jon Jones and Matt Hamill with that of KSI’s fight.
He said, “We have seen this many, many times throughout the history of boxing and the mixed martial arts. For example, just Saturday night, actually you know illegal blows… They are a thing, they exist, you know. Obviously, in mixed martial arts, you’re allowed to use punches, kicks, knees, elbows, submissions and all the rest of it, so it’s a little harder to land illegal blows.” After talking about the bout between KSI and Fournier, he moved to explain the fight between Hamill and ‘Bones’.
He added, “I mean, one of the most famous ones was Matt Hamill versus Jon Jones. Jon Jones, the heavyweight champion, probably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. He was dominating Matt Hamill. He got on top of him. It was a 12-6 elbow that’s an illegal move. It’s a stupid rule, but it is okay. That is the only loss on his record because the referee disqualified him, opened up my Hamill absolutely butch in his face, but it’s a fact that he was dominated just like KSI.“

Dana White supports Jones
Matt Hamill and Jon Jones locked horns at the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, which was held on December 5, 2009. Jones dominated the entire bout; however, in the opening round itself, Jones was disqualified due to illegal elbows. This was the only loss in Jones’ fighting career.

The UFC president, Dana White, hated the fact that Jones was disqualified in the bout against Hamill. In a recent interview with TSN, White talked about the only loss in Jones’ career. The UFC boss blamed referee Steve Mazzagatti, who disqualified Jones even after clearly dominating the entire bout. According to White, what the referee did was wrong, and ‘Bones’ deserved to win the fight. Do you agree?
