Conor McGregor making his return to boxing, and that too, against social media sensation-cum-WWE Superstar Logan Paul, might have been the most unexpected news of 2024. However, former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub has a theory about the Irishman’s decision to accept this fight, and guess what? He seems pretty convinced that Dana White and Co. have a part to play here.

As we all know, McGregor recently came out on the losing side of a civil lawsuit verdict, which has led to certain business deals falling off for the Irishman. Schaub believes that White is well aware of that and could be all in with McGregor’s boxing match, just like his last one, against 50-0 legend Floyd Mayweather. “The UFC is going to be heavily involved on the Conor side. They have to be… Just like the Mayweather fight,” Schaub stated on his ‘The Fighter and the Kid’ podcast.

The former UFC heavyweight believes that the UFC and Conor McGregor both see this as an opportunity to get the latter back on track. Schaub claims this fight is just a means to make the chatter about his legal troubles die down so that he can make his eventual return to the Octagon.

“For the UFC, think about this. Conor’s coming from all those allegations, lost in the civil court; it’s damaged goods right now. Nothing makes all that go away for a fighter like announcing you have a fight.” Brendan Schaub added“So UFC’s going, ‘Go do that, have people forget about all this bullsh-t and you still owe us two more fights.’ So like, ‘Go take the hit over there, let them all go away and you’ll fight here end of next year.'”

Now, this is an interesting theory because Dana White has also maintained his silence on this matter, which is also the same for Conor McGregor’s opponent, Logan Paul. Could they be hiding some sensitive information? We don’t know. Meanwhile, McGregor’s fight could be in real jeopardy. Just recently, Paul made some statements that sounded like the boxing match may not happen at all.

Logan Paul is leaning more towards his WWE run rather than boxing Conor McGregor

WWE Raw recently kicked off their $5 billion Netflix deal with their debut episode on that platform. The show received praise with wrestling fans waiting for what’s more to come as the year and the deal progressed. Logan Paul, who was transferred to Monday nights recently, claimed that he’s done with his ‘side hustles’. Instead, he wants to put his full focus on a full-time schedule as a WWE Superstar because of how good of a performer he’s turned out to be in the UFC’s sister promotion in a very short amount of time.

Is McGregor's fight with Logan Paul a desperate move to distract from his legal woes?

Have an interesting take?

“I’ve been so good at this [professional wrestling]. Now, I’m dedicating my life to this,” Logan Paul stated during Raw’s Netflix debut. “No more side hustle, no more bulls–t. 100 percent WWE.” The former US champ has been claimed to be among the top earners in WWE. Moreover, he has been prominently featured in high-profile fights with top stars in the promotion. Could his permanent shift to sports entertainment put an end to his brief boxing career?

Many questions need answers. But unfortunately, we only have Conor McGregor doing the talking and nobody else. Hence, we’ll have to wait for further developments as this story develops in the days, probably months, to come. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
