Jake Paul has faced many opponents in his explosive boxing career, but only one man has managed to hand him a loss—Tommy Fury. Best known for his reality TV fame and as the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Tommy delivered Paul’s first and only defeat in an eight-round pro boxing bout last February, eking out a win via split decision. The fight was razor-close, and the clamor for a rematch has only intensified since.

But just when fans thought another boxing showdown was inevitable, Tommy Fury threw a wild curveball. In a recent video on his official YouTube channel, Tommy expressed his eagerness for a rematch with Paul—but this time in the realm of mixed martial arts! The twist caught everyone off guard, especially since neither Fury nor Paul has ever stepped into an MMA cage, though Paul is signed to the PFL, the second-largest MMA promotion in the world. To add to the intrigue, Tommy claimed he would need almost two years to prepare for an MMA fight with ‘The Problem Child,’ leaving fans both amused and confused.

This didn’t escape the sharp eyes of former UFC star and trash-talking legend Chael Sonnen. Known for his unmatched verbal sparring, Sonnen found Fury’s challenge not only laughable but a trash-talking flop. Sonnen, who’s been around some of the best in the fight game, was quick to break down why Tommy’s callout was a comedic misfire in the high-stakes world of combat sports.

“He [Tommy Fury] says, this is the part that gave me the giggles ‘I’m gonna smash him
in the face when I get good at MMA’… Now I’ve never heard a threat like that in my life… I’m going to smash him right now. I could walk over to MMA and smash him,” he said.

“I have beaten him in boxing, I will beat him again. I got wrestling, his wrestling sucks it’ll never get to me’ blah blah blah. Like there’s a million ways that you could go with it. But you can’t go with the threat of a skill and then admit that you don’t have the skill but you are looking for it… That is just so funny,” Sonnen added, laughing. However, trash-talking is not really one of Tommy’s strongest suits, who despite mainly being known to the British public due to his appearance on ‘Love Island’ in 2019, wants to get back to his roots.

Tommy Fury claims he will continue being a fighter

After defeating Jake Paul last year, Tommy Fury fought another celebrity boxing pioneer, the popular YouTuber KSI in a boxing match in October ’23. This is why many think that Tommy isn’t serious about being a boxer and is firmly down the celebrity boxing lane.

Did Tommy Fury bite off more than he can chew with his ultimatum to Jake Paul?

Have an interesting take?

But, the reality TV star has claimed in a recent interview that he doesn’t want to “mess around with all these idiots (celebrity boxers like KSI).” In fact, the 10-0 undefeated boxer has vowed that he will be back in the ring soon, and all his reality TV and YouTube stints are just a sideshow to his main focus- boxing.

“I’m a fighter at the end of the day. All the other stuff on the side is stuff I’ve picked up through life but I’ve spent my whole entire life being a fighter so that’s what I want to do and get back to,” he said before the Joshua-Dubois fight at Wembley last night.
