In a bid to introduce some changes to the sport of boxing which he termed “broken”, Dana White started a partnership with Turki Alalshikh to establish a new boxing league. From what we can understand, the UFC CEO’s boxing league could have a similar process to that of the MMA organization he runs, with one champion for each division. But before we get to that, reports claim that White and Alalshikh are looking to change a longstanding law in the boxing world, the Muhammad Ali Act.

For the unversed, the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, popularly known as the Ali Act, which came into existence in 2000, has long shielded boxers from exploitation in the industry and ensures that their rights and importance regarding their welfare are protected. However, Dana White and his business partner—the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) Turki Alalshikh—have reportedly issued a request to the Association of Boxing Commissions for some changes to that act.

“Presently, the UFC/TKO is requesting an amendment change to the Muhammad Ali Act.  The board of directors is working with them to make sure the ABC is still part of the federal law,” ABC president Michael Mazzulli stated, according to a report by Combat Sports Law. Well, this may not bode well for Dana White & Co. because they’ve already come out on the other side of a class-action lawsuit.

In 2014, over 1,200 fighters led by Cung Le filed a class-action lawsuit against the UFC in 2014. The lawsuit finally gathered enough steam late last year when the verdict by the court saw a $375 million settlement between the UFC and the plaintiffs. Now, the question is—why would White want to repeat that in his boxing endeavor?

Clearly, Dana White may not have taken the outcome of the class-action lawsuit too seriously after taking a look at what the recent reports have to say. Meanwhile, one of the UFC CEO’s harshest critics, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya, appears to have found a problem with TKO’s new boxing league, and gave the 55-year-old a reality check about his new endeavor.

Where are the fighters in TKO Boxing? Oscar De La Hoya asks Dana White

While some people believe Dana White’s entry into boxing is a good thing, others are doubtful about his success in this industry. Former world champion Oscar De La Hoya, who has a very public beef with the 55-year-old, falls into the latter category. For starters, ‘The Golden Boy’ suggested that White get himself a roster of fighters because, well, there have been announcement of any fighters being signed yet.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dana White's boxing venture doomed without fighters, or is he playing the long game?

Have an interesting take?

“Speaking of s–mbags, Everyone has been asking me for my opinion and thoughts on Dana White attempting to enter the boxing space… You can’t run a boxing organization when you don’t have any fighters. And right now, TKO and Dana have zero fighters. This means they are likely in it for the long haul,” Oscar De La Hoya stated in an Instagram video.

Furthermore, he also mentioned how Dana White would get snubbed by fighters if the recently leaked details about his alleged pay model for the boxing league turn out to be true. “TKO’s supposed fighter pay and salaries were leaked a few weeks ago. And if these are real, holy shit! Dana’s gonna have several problems…No fighters are gonna fight for these pennies. The majority of their prospects will fight one or two times a year and be forced to survive on minimum pay,” ‘The Golden Boy’ added.

Could these factors lead to Dana White’s unsuccessful run in boxing? Well, that remains to be seen, but let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
