The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois went down last weekend at the Stadion Wroclaw in Poland. The Ukrainian boxer emerged victorious, but fans weren’t siding with the judges’ result. However, it was not the main event that made waves on social media. Rather, it was the ill-treatment of an undercard boxer that had UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping call out the promoters on social media.

Swedish boxer Anthony Yigit took on former Olympic silver medalist and WBO champion Denys Berinchyk on the undercard. In a fight where he came in as an underdog, showcased a brilliant performance. However, he lost the fight via a unanimous decision. Following the fight, he required medical attention but was denied by the promoters. It enraged the UFC Hall of Famer.

After the fight, a video of Anthony Yigit talking about his treatment by the promoter of the Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois event has the combat sports community talking. He mentioned that the fight against Denys Berinchyk led him to suffer a few injuries. It was evident in the video. Moreover, the Swedish boxer needed to get some immediate medical attention. However, the promoters turned a blind eye, citing lack of equipment as the reason. Yigit said, “I told them I need the stitch. They [the promoters] told me in the event that they can’t do it because they don’t have the equipment.”

Michael Bisping was having none of it. Being a fighter himself, he empathized with Yigit’s predicament and the lack of respect shown by the promoters. Moreover, expressed his concern for the fighter and the promoter’s despicable act, claiming that it is a shameful occurrence. “Disgusting. The promoter should be ashamed of himself,” said ‘The Count’. Not only this, Yigit also revealed what happened when they decided to take him to the hospital.

They abandoned Anthony Yigit after reaching the hospital

The Swedish boxer claimed that the promoters did have an ambulance available for the event. However, they only reserved the use of that facility in case of a life-threatening injury. They continued to deny him the help he needed to cater to his injuries. Anthony Yigit said, “I said, ‘Let’s go’, but they said, ‘No, we can’t take you to the hospital.’ I said, ‘Why?’ They said, ‘Yeah, because the ambulance is only for life-threatening injuries.”

It is uncertain as to the extent of Yigit’s injuries from the fight against Denys Berinchyk. However, it will certainly count as a negligible and unfortunate act for the promoter to have denied a fighter the proper medical treatment after the fight. We will have to wait and see what unfolds regarding this issue in the days to come.
