Despite deciding to come back to fighting in a boxing match rather than in the UFC, Conor McGregor is still reportedly set to earn megabucks, or $250 million to be exact, in his slated bout against Logan Paul. However, he may have to tackle certain obstacles to get that boxing match to materialize, according to former UFC referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy. The most common issue with Paul and McGregor’s fight has been the size discrepancy between the two athletes.
While the YouTuber-cum-professional wrestler is known to weigh in around the 200-pound mark, ‘The Notorious’ is touted to be weighing a couple of dozen less than Paul. However, McCarthy believes McGregor will have his means to bulk up by the time that fight gets officially locked. “Conor learned how to beef up and he can go back to beefing up if he wants for that fight for $250 million,” McCarthy told co-host Josh Thomson on the ‘Weighing In’ podcast.
But given that McGregor is contracted to the UFC, he might have to get things cleared out with the promotion’s execs, especially Dana White because the CEO isn’t a fan of allowing his fighters to compete in a fight if he doesn’t have any share in the game. If the Irishman doesn’t proceed with the way his promotion does, he could be liable to face legal consequences, which may not be a path McGregor would like to go down, according to the veteran MMA referee.

“The real question is his contract with the UFC… The only way for him to be able to get that fight is they’ve got to allow it,” John McCarthy added. “They can sue him… They have a contract, right? He signed that contract… They will sue him. He will lose, okay? Now, will he pay? Can they get the money from him? I can’t say that… Does he want to go out in that fashion? That doesn’t make sense.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy isn’t the only one who raised similar doubts regarding Conor McGregor‘s unexpected boxing match announcement, and guess what? The other person believes that it may never come to fruition.

Dana White may not allow Conor McGregor to fight Logan Paul, according to UFC vet
UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen has been weighing into the speculation and the discussions surrounding the Conor McGregor vs Logan Paul boxing match, claiming that he was surprised about one thing. Since joining the UFC in 2013, McGregor has never done business as a fighter with any other promoter than Dana White. “There’s nowhere that Conor has fought for another promoter since he started fighting for this [Dana White] promoter. That has never happened,” ‘The Bad Guy’ stated on his YouTube channel.

We must remember that McGregor reportedly has two fights left on his UFC contract, and as valuable as he is to Dana White and Co., engaging in a boxing match outside of the UFC’s jurisdiction may leave a bad taste in the CEO’s mouth. “Whatever industry you’re in—none of you, zero, have a job where your boss isn’t going to use you. Whatever department it is, whatever you do, your boss is not going to put you to work for another boss. That is not accurate,” Sonnen added.
We are still yet to get an official announcement regarding Conor McGregor’s boxing match, which is speculated to be taking place in India. As of now, it’s all teases, so we will have to wait for further developments on this front and see how Dana White reacts when and if the date for the Logan Paul fights gets fixed.
