UFC legend Jose Aldo Jr. recently registered his third win in his professional boxing career. The 36-year-old showcased his skills at the Shooto Boxing 2 event in Río de Janeiro on Sunday. Aldo faced a much younger Esteban Espindola in a six-round bout of three minutes each. The retired UFC star looked to be at his absolute best as he styled on the Argentine for six rounds to earn a unanimous decision win. As fans are celebrating Aldo’s heroics in the ring, one particular moment is earning more attention than the others.
During his time in the UFC and the WEC, Aldo was a force to be reckoned with. The Brazilian would march down his opponents with devastating punches and kicks and had impeccable takedown defense. Even prior to his UFC exit, the former featherweight champion was putting together a reputable run in the bantamweight division. Therefore, shades of his former glory in the Shooto Boxing ring sent fans on a trip down memory lane. As Aldo landed a crisp uppercut his opponent tried to wrestle him. Jose Aldo faced Esteban Gabriel Espindola in the main event of Shooto Brasil Boxing 2 inside the Upper Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. Unsurprisingly, the Argentinian, who was yet to register a win on his record, had nothing to offer Aldo.
Toward the end of the sixth round, Aldo landed a flush uppercut that stunned Espindola. As the Brazilian marched forward, Espindola tried to wrestle him. ‘Junior’ just raised his arm, waiting for the referee to separate them.
Watching Aldo forcing his opponent to shoot for a takedown and not going down himself, brought back memories for the fans. One of them joked about how Aldo’s takedown defense holds up in boxing too.

One fan commented Aldo should still be in the UFC saying he did better against Merab Dvalishvili than former champion Petr Yan.

For those unaware, Yan, Aldo, and Dvalishvili have all fought each other. The Russian dominated Aldo when they fought. However, Dvalishvili dominated him in their fight in March this year. In comparison, Aldo took much less damage than Yan. Interestingly, this was not the only reference to Dvalishvili.
