Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry—Is Paul truly a 'badass' or just a clever marketer?

Is Jake Paul going from the smoke into the smother? The 27-year-old is all set to enter the boxing ring on July 20, with one major change. He was previously set to take on Mike Tyson, but the former champion pulled out of the fight because of health-related issues. ‘The Problem Child’ will now take on ‘the face of Bare-Knuckle boxing’ Mike Perry in the squared circle. So, now the question arises: did Paul just take on a much tougher challenge? A UFC legend seems to think so!

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen took to his YouTube channel to discuss the fight. The 47-year-old seemed pretty much impressed by the former social media influencer. But what exactly does he think about this move? Let us find out.

There are very few boxers who have the aura of Mike Tyson. The 58-year-old was once a feared athlete inside the boxing ring. Despite his history of brutal knockouts, Jake Paul decided to take him on in a boxing clash. According to Sonnen, Paul is a threat despite being new to boxing.

Facing Perry in his next clash will definitely be one of the toughest fights of his career, perhaps even greater than Tyson. But Paul has never shied away from facing tough opponents. The 47-year-old rates, ‘The Problem Child’ really high for calling out Mike Tyson for a fight. He said, “He signed and tried to fight Mike Tyson. If you try to fight Mike Tyson in boxing, ever in your life. You qualify as a b.d.a…”

Although the fight is called off now, the idea of fighting Mike Tyson is still scary. At 58, Tyson looks like he still can knock people out, which was pretty evident from his training videos. The fight is rescheduled for November 15 and Sonnen feels not many fighters would have done that.

He said, “Challenging Mike Tyson doesn’t count. Probably moves just somewhere over there. But that could just put you in the category of j..k . That could just put you into the category of loudmouth. Are you serious? We’d only know if you are serious. How serious are you? Would you show up? Would you put your name on it?”

The former social-media influencer has faced some quality fighters in his very short career in boxing. Before his next fight he issued a warning for his opponent and said, “First of all, he’s big up in the BKFC. But you’re gonna see what I do to their best fighter on Saturday night. I’m gonna embarrass their whole entire thing. This guy has no skill. Those are just brawler idiots who have no idea what the sweet science is,”. It will now be interesting to see whether Jake Paul can indeed embarrass the ‘Platinum’.
