Former UFC champion Sean Strickland, like much of the combat sports world, isn’t too happy with the upcoming Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. In fact, he is quite livid about it. Tyson, the former (and youngest) heavyweight champion of the world will take on celebrity boxer Jake Paul in an eight-round professional boxing match at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on November 15.
The fight, however, has not gone down well with a large section of the fight world on two main counts. One is the significant, three-decade age difference between the 58-year-old ‘Iron Mike’ and 27-year-old Paul. And two, because Tyson isn’t exactly the healthiest 58-year-old around, with a history of health issues that have even forced him to use a wheelchair in the past.
Paul, on the other hand, looks to be in his athletic prime and has fought four times in the past twelve months alone, unlike Tyson, who hasn’t fought professionally since hanging up his gloves nearly twenty years ago. And Strickland’s unhappiness with Tyson-Paul also partly stems from these concerns. The other part seems to be his visceral, almost maniacal hatred for Paul.

“It’s bulls**t, man. I mean how old is Mike Tyson 60? 57. Jake Paul [is 27]. You [Paul] are a disgrace of a man. You are the epitome of weakness, you are the scum of the earth. The fact that you even have a platform or anything of that nature is a slight on society. You truly make me f***ing disgusted. And if I ever encounter you in real life, I hope that I just don’t lose my s**t and go to prison,” Strickland told MMA journalist ‘The Schmo’ on his YouTube channel.
Jake Paul, of course, is one of the (if not the) most hateable figures in the entire combat sports world. Mostly because he chooses to be. The former Disney star, of course, is deliberately disrespectful and loud-mouthed, using his mic skills to rile up fight fans and monetize the hate he instills among them.

And ‘Tarzan’ seems to have taken Paul’s bait wholesale, which is not surprising since things like respect and humility are big in the fight game. Except, of course, if you are Mike Tyson, who has every right to be as arrogant and as bombastic as he wants to be.
Mike Tyson willing to die in Jake Paul fight

Mike Tyson has the power, experience, and certainly the strength of character to defeat Jake Paul. But what isn’t on his side is age, athleticism, and stamina. ‘Father time’, after all, is undefeated. But Tyson, the warrior that he is and always will be at heart, has no fear of going into the fight.

“If I win, I’ll be immortal. If I do it bad, I don’t want to die in a hospital bedroom, I want to die in the ring,” Tyson said recently. And the thing is the former champ probably means it too. It is certainly totally in character for ‘Iron Mike’, and one of the reasons he remains the most beloved and revered man in the entirety of the fight world.
There were talks that Tyson and Paul had an implicit understanding that their fight would be nothing more than a glorified sparring session. Well, that seems out of the question based on the aforementioned comment from the former champ. It seems that Mike Tyson is fighting Jake Paul to do what he has always tried to do against his opponents- end them. Or at the very least, knock them out.
